Do NOT install Vista yet.. I repeat, do NOT install Vista

So I installed Vista on a friends computer today..

Then we started installing all those programs he needs .. and 8 out of 10 didn't work... what a fucking joke

On top of that, I found it quite slow to work with to be honest...

There's no way I'm gonna install that shit before I'm 100% possitive that all the tools I use on a daily basis works..

i second that

i installed it on a desktop with P4 2,6 cpu and it freezes permanently for 10 sec. every 2 minutes. although i switched all that optical bullshit off for best performance. plus it didn't recognize soundcard & network adapter - on an Asus P4PE board - which is pretty common.

vista sucks

Not Vista's fault people don't check compatibility before installing or hardware manufactures lag ass releasing new drivers.

every time I turn off my monitor as I am used to when I take a brake from work it wont turn back on. I have to hard boot the computer. Now I worry all the time the maid will walk in while I'm in the kitchen getting a snack and see a blown up cock on my screen...

Bad bad Microsoft.

I just don't get it.

I haven't installed vista yet, but I have run the compatability on two machines, and in both cases, everything checks out (except my laser printer for checks, which is a weird-o brother "canadian market only" printer that has issues with everything).

Before installing vista, you need to make a list of programs and check compatiblity, needed upgrades, etc. Don't just assume. Treat it much int he same way you would treat moving from Windows to Mac. Make a plan before you move, not after.

What were the 8 out of 10 programs that didn't work, anyway? it would be interesting to see the list.

The typical problems everytime they have a new system, it always seems they'd rather sell it and then fix the bugs after.

I had vista on this machine for a while and it was stupid slow didnt allow me to use both of my monitors (which I need for video editing) and didnt detect my sound card. Ya would think that the ati 9600 cards would work perfectly.

Actually they would rather sell it and have us the users do the beta testing for them. They then fix the bugs. MS is clever about using its own customers for R&D.

I'm not the type of person who needs to have the latest and greatest software. I still use old versions of Dreamweaver, ACDC, Thumbs Plus, Photoshop, and even Cute FTP. I do use newer versions of the above software at work.

As for my operating system, I'm still using XP. It works fine for me.

I've got it installed here and I'm loving it, it's a kick ass OS. The only problem that I had was during the install, I had to pull out 3-gigs of my ram and only leave in the 1-gig, then it installed flawlessly. Once it was done, I put the ram back in and it's running great I haven't had one lock up yet.

All of my programs and drivers work great. The only problem I had was with WS_FTP Pro, but that was corrected fast. I did a little research and found that they had a beta version that you need to contact their support to get, which I did and it works great

Why did you have to pull RAMS? is there an issue with that? I really think more RAM means more speed right?

Fuck MS, fuck Vista, and fuck Bill Gates.

Fuck all monopolistic motherfuckers and white collar criminals.

Call me when all the kinks are worked out, and when the price drops to what it would cost without the Windows monopoly.

Because 1 (or more) of those 3 DIMMs he pulled out are bad.

Vista is the first Windows to do a full memory test before it will install.

Bad RAM, no install for you. They don't want people blaming faulty hardware for Windows instability. The OEMs (Dell, etc) have a history of sending out untested RAM in their PCs preinstalled.

You have to wait for service pack 2 or later with M$ products. That's been my experience all the way back to Windows 98.

It seems the people who have problems with Vista are people who think they know enough about computers to try upgrading their current computer.

Microsoft can't make everything idiot proof.

The only thing i had to do out of the norm was download the Beta drivers from nVidia for my graphics card. No problems at all now.

Bad bad Microsoft.
This was a bitch of a bug to figure out.

Your machine isn't dead, you just can't see the login. The power management kicked in and the screen doesn't come back until you reauth.

If you were sitting in the dark you'd see what I mean (on an LCD, you see a vague outline of the login prompt).

When you come back to your PC in that state, hit ctrl-alt-del, then type your password and hit enter. It will come back.

Annoying as fuck, but at least there's a way around it.

it just seems silly to me to install a new OS. particularly when just installing updates causes so many issues, not to mention the service packs.

there is no reason to install Vista on an XP machine unless its just for the cool factor. thats something that has always backfired on me in the past. particularly with notebooks. i won't install it on anything... much better to just wait and buy machines where it comes installed, everything works etc.

A friend of mine installed yesterday in his new laptop "specifically designed" for vista. Everything works only problem is that it is very slow even with 2GB of RAM.
