Hey, all you who run registrars....idea for you to get thousands of new customers....
Give all current registerfly.com customers a FREE transfer and have it posted up on registerflies.com
don't make them renew for a year, don't charge them a THING...just give them a free transfer and treat them well....you will have THOUSANDS of new domains in your system, period |

shit, if getting accredited at icann wasn't such a HUGE process, I would start a registrar today and do this....such an easy business decision
shit, and it would be instant money, because some peoples domains will be expiring ASAP and some would expire 10 months down the road....so it would be long term money from clients you never had I have 4 people CLOSE to me that have over 100 domains a piece in registerfly, imagine how many more people are like that? |

I wonder why no registrar has ever made that kind of offer, to offer free transfers and just bait them when time comes up for renewal. Does iCANN charge a transfer fee to registrars? I'd think this would be a great promotional idea for registrars.

i know i have about 60-70 domains in registerfly. i seen godaddy trying to offer some kinda discount... a pathetic one but its the best so far... i mean if you can grab superbowl commercial spots why not offer something better then 6$ transfer fees to totally rape registerflys client base
oh and fuck registerfly i hope someone takes a shit on your front porch everyday for the rest of their lives

that is the only thing I can see is the only reason why they haven't....icann either charges per transfer, or it is in icanns terms that a transfer must be coupled with a renewal

yeah thats what i mean jace, these people rather make a fast buck rather then build on a potentially long term client base. even if it costs them .25 cents they will still charge 7$ and try to pass it off as a favor they are doing for you.

see, and that is just crazy to me.....hell, they could even make it in their terms that customers have to stay until the domain renews one time (if icann allows that term) and get that one domain renewal, that way they don't have to worry about losing much money

Isn't it a bit more than just transfer fees since the new registrar is extending the domain for another year past the expiration date. Essentially you're asking them to eat $6 for every Registerfly customer domain, thats a little steep.

does the transfer HAVE to include a renewal? I don't see that anywhere in the icann terms, where did you read that? I thought that was always just a way for registrars to get their money, by offering free transfer WITH renewal, etc.

I don't know enough to answer that question, I just know that any transfer that I've ever done has included the extended year. You're probably right and the receiving registrar just adds the year in order to justify the transfer cost.

The only problem with that idea, is that RegisterFly is a discount registrar. Discount customers are extremly unloyal and will jump company at the first chance to save a couple of cents.
Plus, they'd still expect the same level of support as paid customers, so the cost to the company would be much more than the ICANN fee.

Im kinda pissed off at namecheap for not offering it. had to pay hundreds of dollars for the transfer, and of course all the domains are locked. Guess Im pissed at regfly too, but that is nothing new lol

My bad so, I used to get emails from them offering 6.77 domain names.
If anyone wants a 8.95 eNom retail account, I can sort them out (hell I might give a rebate if they ask nicely).

A few registrars are offering $1.99 transfers with a purchase of any non-domain service (hosting, ssl, marketting, design, etc.) and no quantity limits.
So $1.99 per transfer + $5.99 hosting or $19.99 SSL isn't so bad. Well... for BULK transfers anyway hehe. |
