How many of you have given back at shows?

It pisses me off when i hear about all the morons that EXPECT something at shops cause they send traffic or the like.

I throw an event soly as a reason to give something back to the people who helped me to get to where I am today - that's the philosophy.

Thank you to all the other sponsers that throw money (many throw huge money) into the events that make shows the incredible affairs that they are.

and this year in phoenix a LOT of companies are going all out.

This thread is a contradiction, no? People sending traffic and sales to programs are helping those programs succeed and grow, right?

Am I missing something?

I guess I can understand why you would want to limit your parties to invite only.

Obviously the larger shows like Internext are filled with idiots who are just trolling for free shit and free parties.

The thing I understand and I guess maybe others don't is that the money that touches me came from someone and that person got it from someone else. So having someone else at my party is fine by me. I realize that there is a yin and a yang. Boggles my mind why others don't. Except that they usually want people who are in the 1 degree of separation category because those people are more likely to blow sunshine up your ass?

I delivered beer to Ynotbob at the YPMex show... a whole case, minus the 1 I drank on the way out to the waves where they were in their lil cabana puffin cigars...

Does that count?

When a show reaches a level of success, individual companies, rather than just trying to maintain that success push the envelope. Always the "biggest" or "baddest" or "wildest" parties ever.

The reality is that many of those events stop attracting the people that made them good, and are replaced with freeloaders, beermasters, and so on. In Vegas, i has gotten to a point where locals not at all in the business buy badges to Internext just to go to the parties and oogle pornstars and webgirls up close.

IMHO, Phoenix is close, but hopefully won't tip because of limited accommodations which make it harder for the freeloaders to hang out.

Good luck to those attending.

Anyone that has ever spoken to me at any show would fast realise I'm about helping them rather than flogging any product or service I can offer and the same goes for next week in Phoenix.

Im sponsorring, AND plan on doing absolutely no business unless it's helping someone out with their biz. That's my way of giving back to the industry that has supported me.

My room is it's own hospitality suite quite often at many shows.

Small groups of good people, good times and caters for those of us for whom sleep is not something we seek.

Good times, good times.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I think Steve Lightspeed is 1 of the people who most give back to shows, he doesnt discriminate low/high traffic people, he seems to truely enjoy peoples company whether an affiliate of his or not, big or small

Haha... That is because Steve is a smart man.

Steve realizes that a better idea might be dreamt up by a lesser (money-making) man and therefor even they must be conversed with.

Scott seems to prefer aligning himself with only those who have shown how great they are and only if their greatness has helped him personally in some way.

I truly do not think he has the ability to feel happy when someone else has accomplished something on their own. In fact, I think it makes him mad.

I came into this business as a complete newbie. I remember feeling excluded and "lower-class" during my first couple shows. I swore that if I ever threw an event, everyone would be invited and there would be no "VIP section". I resented feeling left out, so I refuse to be part of making anyone else feel that way. I remember to this day which companies turned me away at the door, and it has always affected my attitude toward doing business with them.

We've thrown countless events now over the years, and that has helped us meet and do business with nearly everyone in the industy. No one can deny that our strategy worked, and we've had the time of our lives doing it all!

Everyone is invited to our parties at the Phoenix Forum. We are there to have fun, make new friends, and celebrate our success together! See you next week at the Forum!

I've never thrown a party, but I've certainly bought several drinks and meals that I paid for personally. I do it because I like the people I'm buying for - there's no business or financial ulterior motive.

I also won't eat anything or drink anything stronger than water at a party thrown by someone I don't do or haven't done business with. It's the Southern Girl Guilt Factor ;)

That's a great post Steve and can be applied on and offline. I myself get great pleasure in seeing people around me succeed because of advice or help that I was able to offer. People often forget where they come from. However having your type of insight is something that is innate not learned. Your attitude has obviously attract the success and respect that you have rightfully gained in this industry.

Exclusion is the result of insecurity and arrogance. You never know what long term positives will come out of helping others.

Thank you to all the other sponsers that throw money (many throw huge money) into the events that make shows the incredible affairs that they are.

and this year in phoenix a LOT of companies are going all out.
I don't go to shows, so of course I'm not going to give anything for them. I've given money to groups that have a protective stance on the adult industry but I'd never give any money for a show. From what I've heard and seen on the boards I wouldn't even pay the floor free for the AVN shows.

About the only two shows I'd think about going to, are the Costa Rica bash or the Phoenix Forum, other than those I just don't feel a need to go to any.

That's why you are a Big Woody Award winner 2007!

Much love Steve, it's been cool to see you grow over the years. You deserve your success.

For me, I always thought VIP area's excluded people too, but I throw some very high budget parties most of the time and as a marketing strategy to raise the money, I felt I needed to give my sponsors something extra special like VIP's for their guests. It definitely helped raise the money needed for some of my artists I've hired.

When I do small budget parties, no need for VIP. But in all honesty, I prefer not to have VIP areas because it only causes political nightmares and makes people feel left out. Man is it a pain in the ass to get hit up for VIP (knowing your limited to how many you can fit in that area and your sponsors have most of those tickets)

We try to do as much as we can to give back ever since we started going to the shows. Now we throw the Costa Rica Bash and everyone loves it year after year.

I personally am always willing to give a big hug to anyone that needs it, I know it is not $$$$ but when it comes from the heart it is priceless !!!

Kisses

I can't say I've seen any "Big Dick Contests" at shows for years. The industry has changed a lot, now there are more mid-sized and small companies that want to sponsor events, but need to stay within a budget too.

I've found that most companies sponsoring parties are more than willing to work with the hosts and other sponsors to make sure everyone's event gets good exposure. The Phoenix Forum has always been that way. I think that's why it has become such a successful show.
