when I lived in NYC ,a friend of mine introduced me to the head of the iron workers union. He gave me a card and said to call him if I wanted to be a iron worker he would hook me up. I told him thank you but I stand on a piece of paper I get nervous lol.

I have made it a habit of getting paid for what I know, rather than what I do for too many years.

I think it is a little late in my life to change to high risk professions . . . although I have friends that are/were iron workers, and commercial fishermen in Alaska

being a soldier is a given as a high risk job, but it doesnt really fit in the topic here. on the other hand, all the cops i've known have the easiest job i've ever seen in my life. these guys have spent their entire careers without drawing their gun once. instead they write tickets all day, lol.

and you're telling me an ironworker isnt high-risk? lol, i'd like to see you up there hanging off an I-beam trying to put rivets in

Fair enough, but I wasn't referring to cops over here ... how about cops in a country where you are being rounded up by insurgents and executed?

As for being an ironworker - no thanks, but I'd take that over an Iraqi cop any day of the week!

I used to do line repair and maintenance for charter cable. It was pretty risky at times, but learning to climb poles with spikes on my feet was fun, although a little scary when you've got 35 feet between you and the ground and 75,000 volts 4 foot over your head. Thank god i dont have to do that anymore.

How's this for a high risk job?????

Skydiver Dies After Legs Severed in Midair

DELAND, Fla. - A skydiving cinematographer was killed after his legs were severed in a midair collision with the airplane he had jumped from, authorities said.

Albert Wing III had already deployed his parachute Saturday when he struck the left wing of the DHC-6 Twin Otter propeller plane at about 600 feet, a witness on the ground told police.

Both of Wing's legs were severed at the knees, but he managed to maneuver his parachute and land near the DeLand Airport, about 40 miles north of Orlando, DeLand Police Cmdr. Randel Henderson said.

He was airlifted to a hospital, where he later died, Henderson said.

It depends how high the pay is and how risky the job is. Most risky job pay well if you compare them to similar jobs elsewhere, but they don't pay that well if compared to other high paying jobs. For example, being a carpenter in Iraq making 6 figures isn't THAT great, given you can make the same being for example an adult webmaster in the comfort of your home.

It was pretty risky at times, but learning to climb poles with spikes on my feet was fun, although a little scary when you've got 35 feet between you and the ground and 75,000 volts 4 foot over your head. Thank god i dont have to do that anymore.

I used to be a cable splicer for GTE, and always enjoyed working arial jobs. My son inherited it from me I think.

I always enjoyed the climbing part of it. it was the voltage and often frayed phone lines that were no fun. Learning to gaff was a great experience though.
