Windows Media Center and HDTV - doesn't work

As far as I can tell, no way to get HD programming into Media Center. All the HD cards are for off-air or open cable HD signals. None of them have HDMI or component input.

Any ideas?

I have Motorola HD DVR's, and a key digital HD switch to share across the house. But not the same thing as true centralized content.

Have you considered software other than Media Center?

You can use firewire to connect your PC to a cable receiver.

Alternatively, if you have Vista you can get an Cablecard tuner that allows you to receive all HD cable programming.

Some of the new laptops have hdmi out. Havent tried it yet so not sure how it looks. I would imagine pretty good with a decent LCD or plasma.

Where can I get a CableCard Tuner? I thought they were not widely available.

And HDMI OUT is no problem. It's the IN that's the problem.

right now cablecard tuners can be bought with new "certified" pc's, dell is one company I know of that sells them.

Just checked and it looks you might be out of luck for the moment, apparantly they pulled shipments of them because of some bug.

I'm looking into building a system for my house, too. I want a centralized server with everything on it: movies, shows, some music, etc. Then I want each computer and each TV to be able to pull from it. Both of my TVs are HDTVs.

Has anyone done this?

As far as this thread goes... HDMI is still fairly new technology. May have to wait a bit yet. When I bought my first HDTV about 2 years ago I had a difficult time finding HDMI, then when I bought my second last summer, pretty much every TV had HDMI. My cheapo DVD player has it even.
