People worried about Global warming should be more worried about their mobile phones.

In a time when concerned activists and ecologists continually point to mankind?s progressively selfish destruction of the planet, the thoughtless eradication of countless species, and the decadent waste of vital resources, it would now appear that mobile phone users have shifted into the spotlight of criticism where impending doom is concerned.

More specifically, certain scientific quarters are suggesting that the proliferation of the mobile phone could pave the way to huge food shortages caused by failing harvests around the world, reports the Belfast Telegraph.

Although April 01 has already passed, the worrying theory offered up by scientists is no prank, and it points out that the levels of radiation emitted by mobile phones could well be a defining influence in the sudden decline of crop-pollinating honeybees. Odd as it may sound, the swift disappearance of the honeybee has spread from the U.S. through to mainland Europe, and is now also said to be having an impact on the United Kingdom.

More Here:
http://tech.monstersandcritics.com/n...ing_honeybees_

This is a much more imminent and more disasterous problem in the short-term than a natural thousands-year cycle of global warming. I'm not a major cel-user myself (I might use mine 6 times a year, quite literally), but I know many people who spend their lives attached to one. Really makes you think.

holy canoli, that's scary! But it could very well be true. Just think of the amount of cell phone batteries that get discarded every day

Read the article.. it's the mobile SIGNAL that causes the bees to desert their hives and never return. And it doesn't have to be in the hive itself, just in the general area. Imagine how many cel-phone towers out in the middle of nowhere are directly affecting the bee hives nearby?

Ironic enough I found this article browsing through as well it sure explains a lot when you take the first article into account!

Ontario's beekeepers are happy the government will study why the bee industry took unprecedented multimillion dollar losses this year but still hope the Agriculture Ministry will respond with compensation for a tough winter.

Agriculture Minister Leona Dombrowsky said the government is teaming up with the University of Guelph to study what was behind the unexplained hit to the industry, which is estimated to total more than $5-million for lost bees alone.

The growing losses are doubly troublesome because the bee population also has an effect on many businesses across different industries in the province, Ms. Dombrowsky continued.

1 season does not a trend make, and the author of the first article is a known radical anti-cell phone crusader.

It would be premature to declare cell phones the cause of this bigger than usual decline in the bee population, but it is a theory worthy of further study.

I dont think it's time to drink the cyanide-laced kool-aid yet.

Not to mention you're microwaving your brains every time you use it. Ever look at scrambled eggs in a frying pan? This is your brain on cell phone waves.

No idea if this is true but lots of areas here do not have cell reception in the rural areas. I know hard to beleive but true. I was speaking of the US but I am actually in Brazil and it is very true here.

I remember that being a big thing in the news years ago, people were making a big deal about phones with no antennas because the signals were closer to your brain. Thats funny you don't ever hear about that know, everybody wants the smallest and a antenna is the last thing they want sticking out.

There was a peice on I beleive Dateline about a month ago and they had a scientist talking about the bee problem. Anywho, he said that this theory along with a few others were not likely. There is huge debate in the scientific community right now as to why this is happening.

I just hope they figure it out soon.

The Butterfly Effect (no, not the movie one) is a very real concept... the tiniest thing we do today will have an effect on tomorrow... and next year and 100 years from now.

That tiny effect can easily be dismissed since it's so small, no matter when we start to question it, because it's always a tiny effect.

But it's still there and it's still adding up.

The orogin of 'The Butterfly effect" is in climate science. It is the reason why climate and weather are completely unpredictable.

The mathermatical roots of the effect are in Chaos theory, which is the study if iterative systems (Chaos theory and interative systems give rise to things like The Mandelbrot set.. everyone has seen the 'picture' of what this set looks like).

It is also why I chuckle slightly at "Global Warming" - if chaotic systems were predictable - they wouldn't be chaotic. Mmmm.. paradox-y.

There is no proof of that quote actually being attributed to Einstein.
