Dog owners, what do u give ur dog for joint support?

i have a 6 yr old yorky and her legs r not doing so good. The knee joints are slipping. the joints go side to side and it looks bad when she walks. Picked up Arthrimaxx. she is getting X-rays tomorrow too. my poor lil baby.


anyone here have any luck with a joint support supplement for their dog? any recommendations would be appreciated.

Wellness brand dog food. The Senior formula. why?

Is that a common problem with those type of dogs? 6 is pretty young

My greyhound is 6 1/2 and has metal plates in his legs and walks fine

yes, its more common in the smaller breeds. im keeping her in bed and relaxed till i bring her to vet tomorrow

i dont know if she is pain. she is not whimpering or crying or anything. just not her usual self this week. usually a very active dog....

what brand arthritis pill do you give your dog?

Well if she is not moving like she use to do and if it takes her more time to stand up ... she is in pain...

any arthritis medecin is good ask your close familly if anyone as arthritis if so take that.... its mesured by weight....

I just usually blow hits of weed in my dogs face, seems to work

The reason I asked the dog food, is it seems odd with her age of 6 that she would have problems.

If she is an outside dog, or goes to doggy parks, or Doggydaycare have your vet check her for lime.

I have an older dog that we give Rimadyl to and it seems to suppress the pain for her. She plays more now than she did before. You might want to ask the doctor about this also if he determines that she does have the arthritis. good luck tomorrow.

Is she over weight? I have a 1 year old toy sized yorky male. I feed him natural ultra mix he is doing great. My first yorky lived until 10 years and was fat from excess human food, though he had no joint issues. The only time I have met other yorkies with these issues is dogs that are fat.

Glucosamine pills. I gave them to my dog when her hips went bad and it made a huge difference. Give it a week or so untill it starts helping.

she is under 4 pounds...very athletic. walks all over central park with me. i take her everywhere i go in the city and she usually walks unless she is tired. not an ounce of fat on her.

PS: im not gay(not that theres anything wrong with that)...i bought this lil munchkin when i went looking at dogs with my GF at the time. When i saw this tiny looking thing that resembled a lil rat, i had to have her. best move i made other than picking out a mini pincher as well. these r m buddys

6 seems awfully young for knee problems. It also doesn't make sense that small dogs would suffer more from joint problems. In reality, the larger the dog, the more problems with joints.

If one knee in particular seems to be a problem, your dog may have blown a cruciate or a supporting ligament. In small breed dogs it may be more difficult to notice, but in large breed dogs a limp will be quite pronounced.

Rimadyl IS a good drug for pain, but ocassionaly it can cause serious liver damage. If you can get Meloxacam instead it's probably a better drug.

In any case, best to ask your Vet in person and go with what they suggest.

our oldest, cj. has a bunch of joint problems too, from years of neglect. in addition to his innova food i give him vitamin c, glucosamine and chondroitin, and a couple pumps of linatone oils. i also have liver flavored asprin on hand if his arthritis is acting up on a particular day.
