Top article at clickmojo sums it up pretty briefly. Feel free to ask questions!

Basically, if you want to grab a premium expiring domain name.. your choices are all removed now. You will have to buy it through Network Solutions WLS program which is a partnership with SnapNames.

If you've ever went to reserve a back-order with Snapnames, you know that a lot of times you might be too late because someone else beat you to it. However, you still had other options and many times could win the name you wanted.

You have no options now. Its either get there first and give them the money, or you don't get the name at all.

So this means if you want a deleted domain, you have to go thru Verisign??

ICANN and netsol (network solutions) have always been basically the same company. Subsidery of ICANN or something like that. As well as Internic.

I'm reading this a more of an organizational issue rather than anything specific to Netsol. Isn't this open to all registrars?

'WSL is intended to provide both (1) a new, streamlined business opportunity for the entire registrar community, and (2) some measure of relief in dealing with the "deleted domains" issue.'

I don't see Netsol mentioned specifically anywhere. Am I missing something?

Netsol is Verisign. Netsol has hoarded domains and not let them expire normally. They have allowed numerous premium domains to be stolen and taken no action to prevent it or recover the names so far. Verisign will earn a substantially higher amount per name through WLS than through normal registrations.

All registrars are supposed to be able to sell WLS subscriptions, except the registrar where the name is expiring from I think.

In a WLS market, the winners will be the wealthier domain investors who can afford at day 1 to buy numerous WLS subscriptions.

You'll need to do two main things better than anyone else:
1. Know which names will likely expire, months before the expiration date.
2. Be the first to buy the WLS subscription.

On the launch date of WLS, the pro's will invest hundreds of thousands of dollars or more reserving a large list of the best names. Probably even a year in advance in many cases. If you're looking to get any names when this happens, you need to start making your lists as soon as possible.

I'm glad I never got into deleted domains. It will be interesting to see how that develops, and whether there's room for legal challenges from somewhere.
