I think my PC is overheating, what do I do?

I leave my pc on non-stop. Once every 10 days or so I wake up and my pc has restarted. IS that from overheating? The pc is about 3 months old. WTF do I do?

if ur pc is near the ground the fan is getting dust trapped in it...try dusting it off and cleaning it out and try turning it off every night.

If your PC was overheating, it should shut down, not restart.

Most likely Windows Update as others have suggested as it is set to Auto-updates on by default.

Thanks everyone! Since I assembled it myself and the air coming out of it feels warmer than my last pc I was worried. I'll turn off automatic updates and see if it happens again.

I have a heat sink with a fan blowing toward the back, another fan mounted to the back about 6 inches from the one I just mentioned blowing it out, a fan blowing out of the top, and on near the bottom of the case blowing over the hd's.

Solution: Clean your fans and CPU heat sink. If that doesn't work get bigger fans and a bigger CPU heat sink.

If you're worried about heat, go grab MBM5 and monitor them

could be a number of things, possibly the power supply, possibly CPU overheating, but I think if the CPU was overheating, it would turn off...

is there somewhere in the BIOS that gives the current temp?

If you are really concerned about heat - depending on your setup - you could go with a cheap water-cooling solution (like Thermaltake's Silent Water).

I rarely get above 40C on the lowest setting... plus on low the fan is almost inaudible. Chip can go in the low 30's on the highest setting (though at high the fan of the water cooling system is loud as fuck).
