Granted, there are acts that we should never accept as "ok," but terrorism will always be. One person's terrorist is another person's revolutionary.

Of course it can't be won. Not while there's rampant liberalism. You can't pacify a population trying to make friends with them. Take a page out of the Roman or Nazi hand books and start crushing the civilian population.

IED attack on US soldiers? Helicopter gunship response on a Mosk. Suicide bombers in the market? Cruise missile response on a school. Eventually they'll smarten up or just die.

Time's will change, the balance of power will shift, and perhaps it will be 'normal' to call the US a terrorist state (as we all know, some groups already do, but the difference is in legitimate power - ie, relatively few governments would publicly be calling the US a terrorist state right now).

It's all about what's normal. The 'West' has held the balance of power, has been 'normal' as defined by the opinions of the majority. It's all about perspective!

The whole war on a noun issue I find fascinating as well.... how exactly do you start a conventional war on one side with the other side lacking land boundaries, without state players in most cases, and expect to have a winner?

progress in the way of stopping planes from crashing into american skyscrapers sure, but terrorism comes in all shapes & forms and terror can be spread through many venues. if you define terrorists solely as disgruntled middle-easterners crashing carbombs and hijacked airplanes into shit, maybe there ha sbeen slight progression made, but even on that level there is hardly a nick in the rope. there has been NO progress in stopping true terrorism in my opinion. this again raises the question... who are the terrorists now? do you not think thousands and thousands of innocent iraqi civilians see the american military occupation of their land and cities as terrorism? it's just too broad a term, and that is what makes it an impossible "war" to be won.

all we do is wipe one form of terrorism to make pathway for another. hell, the american people are terrorized on a daily basis by their own media/government. is there really any threat of terror in the united states on a day to day basis beyond the terror instilled it's people on a day to day basis through the 6'o clock news?

terrorism can hide in any small corner of society, in any nation, with lots of money, or no money at all, work at walmart, learn to build a bomb out of household items surfing the internet. hell, if it were my agenda, I could easily blow up a bomb in a government building without anyone having ever seen it coming. your neighbours grandma could be a "terrorist" for all anyone knows.

the only way to win the war on terrorism, is to remove the word terror from the english language. this is the only way we will ever make "terror" non-existant...

The 'War on Terror' is actually Americans fighting to get their freedoms back since Bush's administration has quietly and effectively taken them away. Its too bad many haven't realized that when Bush says 'Protection', he's really taking away freedoms and rights.

The 'War on Terrorism' isn't going so well however. Iraq is still in shambles. The US cannot pull out for many years, and the US $ will continue to plummet due to the funding this war is costing.

The War on Terror is not going to end any time soon. Not until American citizens use democracy to their advantage. Seems to me like this war is really just a cleaver ruse to slowly strip Americans of their rights and freedoms. But their citizens won't realize what is going on until it is way too late. Guantanamo is a perfect example of what I am talking about. Holding prisoners against their will and without due process just because they say they are terrorists? These are special courts where the judges are already admitting that they do not possess the proper jurisdiction to prosecute. They have no appeal system in place yet either. Not that it matters anyways because even if the courts find these people innocent, they are not going anywhere anyways.

Just this week a Canadian kid who is accused of killing an American soldier when he was just a boy was acquitted on a technicality yet he will remain in prison most likely for the rest of his life because the American government could care less about rights. Sadly, the Canadian government has done little to help this kid out.

So, is the war on terrorism over? Hell no, it never will be. The laws that have been put in place allow the government to do whatever they want. I'd venture a guess that until the government has a file on everyone, the war on terror will wage on.
