Generating revenue from foreign traffic
Just thought I'd share my experience with this. I have an option for users of my DRM service where I give them use of my hosted DRM platform for free for P2P advertising, in exchange for 15% of their traffic. (15% of the time the users wind up seeing my page instead of theirs).
Well on the pages since about 99% of this traffic was adult, I wound up placing AFF ads which did well for awhile. However in the past few months my conversions went to complete hell, so I rigged up Geo-IP detection (from Maxmind) with sub-ids and tracked how well my foreign traffic converted versus US traffic. US traffic converted at a reasonable rate, but 60% of my traffic was coming Internationally and was converting at something like 1:30000. Obviously a complete waste of time. So I discovered a few things. First, by showing foreign users a simple adwords page, I turned my foreign traffic to about a $15 CPM, up from about a $1 CPM. Next, even though AFF has geo-ip location, and french friend finder and all of those, it doesn't seem to have foreign language options as far as I can see. Why the hell isn't French Friend Finder in french for example? Maybe I'm missing something and it's possible but I'm not seeing it. Anyhow, moral of the story is try running some geo-ip analysis on your traffic and if even 10% of it is international, do some optimizing.

The AFF geo-ip banners hone-in on the surfer's home town with mixed results.
Ours focus on the surfer's country and language with 100% global billing reach. See also http://www.gfy.com/fucking-around-and-business-discussion/730957-geo-ip-banners.html Questions? Hit me up! ![]() |

FrenchFriendFinder has french and english versions (there's a french flag and an american flag on the top-right). You're just being geo redirected to the english version.
