I saw one report of 25 petabytes per day...

Other stats include over 12 million uniques per day, 100 million downloads per day, with an monthly bandwidth bill exceeding $1 million USD.

I dont understand how is having a video sharing site profitable? So much bandwidth used... I mean unless you got a really nice deal, but man. With that many unique visitors per day, you cant have ANY ROI off the miserable ads on that site.

Think about it... It's mostly teens that visit youtube, and teens simply dont fucking buy anything online.

Petabyte = 1,024 Terabytes

Therefore if YouTube burns up 25 petabytes per day, that equals 25,600 terabytes per day!

My sites use about 15 gigabytes per day...

and alot of ads being shown on these sites are ads for adnetworks who have fortune 500 companies who don't pay for "sales" but for branding, they don't give a shit how many clicks they get, its the views, ya know, like tv commercials, and magazines...

I remember a report saying youtube uses 10% of all internet traffic ..

And just to let some people know, 25 petabytes means 26,214,400 gigabytes or 26.2 million gigabytes

I remember an article in one of the major business magazines a while back say they were paying around $1 million a month with Level 3 I believe. Its hard to even guess now what they may be pushing. Even knowing a price wouldn't tell you enough to have a real accurate number.

I can tell you on average per minute they use. When I brought up VideoSlacker.com, I talked to the sales guys at Server Beach. One of the selling points was that they host YouTube. Then, the salesman told me how much they use per minute in transfer. I wanted to faint! When I signed up, I told him to make fucking sure that I was no where near their subnet. He told me that they're on a subnet on their own on a private lan. If you want to know how much they use, call up ServerBeach.com and they will use it as a sales pitch. Go to http://www.serverbeach.com and look under their customer section on the frontpage.

After saying all of that Doug why don't you just tell us what they said?

Whatever the case, YouTube makes enough to justify the cost. Easily. There's a lot of money earmarked in mainstream ad buys for sites like this.

On the other hand, something tells me that PornoTube would have a much harder time covering the cost. They will eventually get enough hits to have to justify at least a $400k bandwidth bill... do you think they will make enough to cover that?

Interesting, the other day I read a report that said bittorrent accounts for 40% of all internet traffic.

Now we just need to find out what the remaining 50% is used for.
