Avandia causes heart attacks. Gov. votes to keep it on market

Ok, so who do these people work for again?

Let there be no doubt that the US government is more concerned with sales from a drug that has been proven to increase the risk of heart attacks, than it is with the american citizens who may unwittingly be taking the drug.

Most drugs have side effects to some degree, it is possible that people feel it's effectiveness at diabetes treatment out weighs the potential health risks within certain classes of low-heart risk patients.

FDA's analyses of all available data are ongoing. FDA has not confirmed the clinical significance of the reported increased risk in the context of other studies. Pending questions include whether the other approved treatment from the same class of drugs, pioglitazone, has less, the same or greater risks. Furthermore, there is inherent risk associated with switching patients with diabetes from one treatment to another even in the absence of specific risks associated with particular treatments. For these reasons, FDA is not asking GlaxoSmithKline, the drug's sponsor, to take any specific action at this time. FDA is providing this emerging information to prescribers so that they, and their patients, can make individualized treatment decisions.

I agree. I got very sick once and had to take a dangerous medicine. Before taking it I had to sign a waiver that the drug could cause liver failure, a bunch of other side effects, and possibly death.
I signed it and took the medicine, and it saved me. Im glad it was available despite the dangerous side effects.

Yeah, I just hope that they actually DO that stuff and not just report it. Another drug mentioned in the article is showing signs that it actually lowers the risk of heart attack as well as keeping type 2 in check. Must be weaker lobbyists ,lol.

I'm personally glad. They are telling people the risks and giving them the choice to take those risks or not. This is something they should do with ALL drugs (including those that are now illegal) IMO.

Less government is something I still stand by ;)

If this drug didn't belong to a big Pharm company that spends shitloads buying off our government, it would be banned. I agree though with what you're saying, but the truth is that only the big Pharm companies get that freedom.
