There are no taxes applicable to any "foreign" earnings in Panama. EG if you have a Panama corp for net stuff - no taxes and no need for any filings other than an annual govt fee of $350/year for the corp.

Property is increasing in value every year - it varies by location but going to be in the 20%-50% per annum. Development/construction in Panama is already happening and increasing.

There are around 140+ banks in Panama. Of these, at least 40 are major international banks.

Climate is tropical with two seasons - rainy and dry. The rainy season is from May to December. Temperature varies depending on location, but around 80% during the day and approx 60% in mountain locations. The temperature does not vary much whether in the dry or rainy season (and the rainy season is not unpleasant - often just a heavy shower for a hour a day).

People are friendly and laid back. Though the main language is Spanish, English is not uncommon in city areas in particular. As with any major city, you would not walk down a street flashing bank notes:-) Crime is generally on the low side.

There are various forms of residency (recommended if you intend to buy a home) and less complicated than several other countries. Currently Visa's only last 30 days (as opposed to 90 days) for most industrialized countries, but that may change back to 90 days in the near future.

Around 30% of Panama is national parks or protected areas. The rainforests are very rich in animal and plant species. Panama does not have hurricane's (they can be a hassle in down time if you work on the net). There are hundreds of coastal islands off Pamana - Bocas del Toro and San Blas areas (Caribbean coast) are appealing to developers/clients and the only downside is that development can cause damage to the ecology in these areas - but they are heavy-demand real estate locations.

Overall - temperature can be on the high side especially if you are not used to it. The business environment in Panama is better than most Central American countries. Real estate is increasing rapidly - good investment prospects. Lifestyle is a plus - far superior to most industrialized countries.

Re the link to a trauma story of a US citizen in Panama. The full detail of that is not known. There are crooks everywhere - not just in Panama. As a guide - never associate with people you would not elect to associate with in your home country - this seems to be a very common failing with folks who move to other countries

Don't know too much, but ironically i just watched this last week...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Panama_Deception

The Panama Deception is a controversial documentary film that won the 1992 Academy Award for Documentary Feature. The film is critical of the actions of the US military during the 1989 invasion of Panama by the United States, covering the conflicting reasons for the invasion and the depicting of the US media as biased. It was directed by Barbara Trent of the Empowerment Project and was narrated by actress Elizabeth Montgomery.

One of the many allegations made by the film is that the United States tested some form of laser or energy weapon during the invasion. The film also includes footage of mass graves uncovered after the US troops had withdrawn, and depicts some of the 20,000 refugees who fled the invasion.

Hehe... Not into snakes too much, but most are harmless. Sadly howler monkey populations are dramatically decreasing - there is less and less habitat for them.

Agree WG - it's not suitable for US citizens - especially when there is a MLAT in place with the US.

Hell no - much as you may want to when they howl early in the morning

Depending on the centro American country - there are varying laws against this - often to extreme degrees. An example was a construction project where a group of monkeys needed to be moved slightly. There was one last monkey remaining and that held the whole project up for around five weeks at a silly cost to the developers. But... the monkey eventually decided to move and walked along the telephone lines across the road

Thinking...... and assuming you have US citizenship brand0n.

There is nothing actually illegal about owning OS corps or bank accounts. The "illegal" element (at least with US folks) is not reporting income and, not sure of the exact wording, but showing an interest in whatever corps.

OK.. Will throw this one for consideration You get a formation agent to form a corp with nominee directors. This corp never trades or has any bank accounts or assets - ie there would be no reporting requirements to any US agency.

If any enquiries were made into that corp - this would be a dead end since the laws of Panama (and almost all other OS jurisdictions) do not allow fishing expeditions or prying into corps. There are also no public records or filings which would have your name. I'd seriously doubt any US investigator would be interested in persuing this since he/she is not going to get far - it's too messy with cross-border jurisdictional problems and USC 2257 is not in the league of "crime" to which a MLAT (Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty) would apply.

The other factor which is prob relevant to seal up all avenues/liability is the hosting jurisdiction (ie that hosting is not in the US).

Other factor is how much this is worth - the cost of a corp would prob be around $800 max (with nominee dirs) and there is an annual tax of $350/year to the Panamanian govt.

Ah.. may have misinterpreted your post...

If you mean actually trading OS, yes - that is possible as well. But, to remain "legal" you prob want two corps - one to trade with and declare whatever - and the other is the shell corp as described above.

If you are possibly considering being resident outside the US - there is still the tax declaration for your trading corp, but you also have a personal "gift" of around $80K/year in allowances from the IRS.

again, i dont give a damn about paying taxes. the old "i sleep well at night, i pay my taxes"

im just sick of the us laws around our industry.. 2257, can-spam all that jazz.

ill gladly pay the 25/30% to the us for taxes. i just dont want to deal with all the stupidity.

now, i told someone else this and hes goes.. what the fuck are you into where you dont have 2257 docs.. but dear god, all the shit im into dont come with 2257 docs. not that i dabble any anything against the law, or immoral, just face the facts, tons of sponsors dont have 2257 in place, and then now a days with all the rules conserning them, just an avg joe like myself who just pushes traffic needs a full time guy to keep shit in place.

id reather just scoot to panama, open a company, and not have to deal with all that nonsense.

nothing to do with taxes what so ever.

Hear you lound and clear

We used to comply with USC 2257, not because it was an obligation, but it could have been used as a standard. But, it was never (or rarely) enforced under the old version and the current edition is not worth the hassle - so, dumped the lot and don't host or run any corps in the US.

The above scenario *may* be OK - it really needs some legal expertise from the US end. From eg a Panama end - it's not a problem.
