Can't you invest in the market as a whole? I read that the market grows at 10% historically and mutual funds average out to return 8% after all the bullshit fees.

Yep just a buy fund that tracks the whole market.

I like sector specific funds, oil, energy, mining and about
10% of my cash in smallcap pharmaceutical (cause they can rocket)

I have an awesome mutual fund account. I can move money into and out of any fund I want, and no fees. that why I use it. But getting into this is not for the common man. So.....

and I stick with it, because last quarter I had a 23% increase. My stock portfolio had a 16% and it covers tech, pahrma, and oil.

Index funds = investing in the market as a whole

People just are so used to hearing "Mutual fund" and they dont know any better. Also.....fo an inexperienced money manager it is a safe way to show a client a return
