Useless fact for the day

There are two types of lighting hot and cold. Cold lighting will not start a fire while hot lighting well send you shit up in a blaze....

Heat lightning has an orange-red kind of look. Lightning also can be from cloud to ground, cloud to cloud or ground to cloud. So it can pretty much get you from anywhere.

Cow fry anyone...

With all the cows in the fields... you would think that there would be a lot more BBQs if there were that much of a selection of lighting... How would you like your steak !!!

"Cold" lightning is simply any lightning bolt that does not flow long enough to set wood on fire.... <think split trees>

Color or power of the bolt itself is not a factor in determining if it's "cold" or "hot."

At a minimum of like 10,000-20,000 amps, any bolt has enough energy to start a fire, but it won't if it doesn't last long enough, as the current has to be applied long enough to start the wood sublimating (turning from solid to gas).

Any lightning bolt thats duration is long enough to start wood sublimating (talking tenths of a second here) is "hot" - anything less... "cold."

How hot is lightning?

The temperature of the air around a bolt of lightning is about 54,000° Fahrenheit (30,000° Celsius), which is six times hotter than the surface of the sun.

Remarkably, many people have been struck by lightning and survived. American park ranger Roy Sullivan, for example, was hit by lightning seven times between 1942 and 1977. As long as the lightning does not pass through the heart or spinal column, the victim of a lightning strike will most likely survive.
