In 3 years Half of Las Vegas will be without water

Las Vegas' Water Supply Being Crippled from Drought

The water supply in Las Vegas has become cause for alarm. The Southern Nevada Water Authority has said on Thursday that in three years hundreds of thousands of people will be without water, unless the threat is quickly acted upon.

The worsening drought conditions had prompted a request of more than $45 million to upgrade the water pumps in Lake Mead, which would double the capacity to pump drinking water from Lake Mead to Las Vegas.

At current rates the water level will plummet below the first water intake in three years, which would have a dramatic effect on the water supply to Las Vegas.

"if nothing is done to change the situation in the next 3 years". The issue could be pushed to 10 years by building a new water intake in lake Mead.

Well all I can say is the party is over in Vagas and I washed my laundy there once,Swam in the Hard rock hotels most awesome pool with some big names, went up stairs after getting a free glass of water from the first floor resturant, and took a big SHIT that clogged up the toilet!
I had spent 2 hours flushing repeatedly until the floor beneath me had complained of water drippage!

How many people will be able to say that huh in a few years?

Oh looking back on it now I think I had to wash my clothes twice now seeing how the water there left a scuzzy film on my clothes!

They had needed water for a long time time to spend some of that cake on repairs!

the new intake doubles volume pumped from lake. the problem is that the lake is already too low. thats like cannibalizing ones own leg not to starve. it will buy time, however.

the solution is to re-nig on the us/mex colorado water pact from a century ago. stop all colorado river water from going to mexico.

I know it's cool to be glib and all...but what people have failed to realize for most of this new century we have been experiencing a drought much worse than the dust bowl ever was. It's only been because of effective planning, and technology that has made it seem like things are fine.

Well, that was quite awhile ago, perhaps Mexico won't even notice.

Are there active water restrictions in LV? We've been under official restrictions in south-eastern Australia for a couple of years. Right now we are not permitted to water our garden or lawn, wash our cars, or fill a pool. Further north the restrictions are even tighter.

At this point, they just need to get all that extra water from Texas and Oklahoma and pump it over. That would solve the issue outright.

i thought about that, but the cost to build an interstate pipeline would be enormous.

We should build an aqua-duct from New Orleans to Las Vegas so the next time a hurricane comes we can save both cities.

They did it for oil in alaska with an 800mile pipeline, and those conditions are far far worse than anything down here. And that was 30 years ago?
