Peer1 has a datacentre there, so they may provide it. Also, Bell is able to provide that. Or videotron actually: www.VTL.ca is their site.

Canadian bandwidth isn't cheap though...

Because of the fucked up way that bandwidth providers still have to deal with Bell to get the lines installed, the price of "local loop" bandwidth is still way out of line.

Depending on what you are doing, you may find that a company like videotron can put enough bandwidth in for you.

If you are planning a datacenter or similar, I have to say "good luck". You will save yourself a ton of money if you are very close to the actual source of the bandwidth (get close to the area between old montreal and place bonaventure).

I know peer1 has a data center at 1080 beaver hall.
Canix is like right accross rene-levesque as well.

If you're looking for bandwidth and not phone lines, you should go with a regular circuit instead of a t1/t3.

Wel a t1 is 1.54mbps, which is really not that great. For cheaper, VideoTron can provide a 10mbps line with 1.5mbps upload for much cheaper than a traditional t1.

Or you could get a fiber line in...

150K a day ?
Can you clear that up in gigabytes ... Are you saying less then a gig a day ?

If so, you can run that on a xdsl line ( allstream has decent deals ... ).

But for the same price , you could get a hell of a box with tons of BW in a Data Center.

You can run servers on videotron commercial accounts ... but not residential accounts.

Why would you want to do it yourself? Hosting is absolutely dirt cheap these days. Hosting it yourself would likely mean a slower service, more jumps to get to your servers, and a whole pile of tech stuff that you would have to handle for yourself.

I don't entirely understand where you are going with this.

Hey pierrefitch,

Videotron has these options you may be interested in:

Extreme High-Speed Internet 10Mbps/900kbps with UNlimited bandwidth = around $70/month

Extreme High-Speed Internet Plus 20Mbps/1Mbps with 20GB download & 10GB upload limit = around $87/month

or you can try Sympatico (Bell):
5Mbps UNlimited = $48/month

---------------------------------

Plus, Bell Canada recently launched "Sympatico Optimax" which has 2 options:

Sympatico Optimax is available in selected areas of Montreal now and is priced at $65 per month for 10 Mpbs or $80 per month for 16 Mbps.

The Optimax service has monthly bandwidth cap of 75GB.

Those are all residential services, not intended for commercial use and certainly not intended for hosting servers and adult content.

If he goes with a corporate plan ( Allstream or others ), the speed in Quebec is the same as Ontario and the same as NY...

Speed is relative to the line available. Prices is a different issue.

I had servers at my office in 2001 , on an ADSL ( a lousy 640 kbps upstream ) for 495.00 / month ...

This is why it is pretty weird that someone would look for that today, when you can have huge performance from a dedicated server for 1/3 the price.
