Keith Lamont Johnson, 47, a barber, has been locked up three times by mistake.

Detroit: 47-year-old Keith Lamont Johnson, a barber with no criminal record, has filed a lawsuit to stop police arresting him for the misdeeds of 47-year-old Keith Lamont Johnson the convicted forger who is serving time in a state prison.

Despite having letters from the Detroit PD stating that he was not to be confused with a criminal with an identical name and date of birth Johnson has ended up behind bars for up to several days on a number of occasions.

In addition he has missed out on several jobs because criminal record checks come back showing a felony record. "It's rough. It's been this way all my life. I keep talking and keep talking and no one listens and I end up in jail," said Johnson.

My cousin has to carry a special ID because one of his cousins on the other side of his family stole his identity. It's a real pain in the ass for him.

A few years ago a man with the same name as me and the same birth month who lived in the same city, Toronto, took part in the murder of two young woman in Detroit. The woman just happened to live in Mississauga and had attended the same high school that I had attended years before. It was front page news in the Toronto Star; needless to say I received more the a few worried phone calls and messages. It was a pretty freaky experience.
