Bush just asked for another 42.3 Billion for war..

That would bring your total spent on the war to 189.3 Billion! No wonder America is in debt... he's addressing the war, and didn't even say one thing about the California fires... how about putting some money into better supplies at home, like more fire trucks etc. My hatred for Bush grows with every speech he makes

Yeah, that money's not gonna help the troops at all. I heard he's had architects working on plans for a self-sustaining ice mansion in Tikrit, for when he gets too hot during photo-ops.

For some reason I thought the total spent on the war would have been much higher than 190 billion. Its been several years, I thought it would have been over a trillion by now.

This isn't communist canada. Firefighting is not a federal issue, and until California requests federal assistance they will stay out.

There's another 200-500 billion that isn't "considered" war spending, even though its a direct result of the war...

Pretty ridiculous... no wonder the US debt is so huge and the economy is going down the shitter. I guess they've already turned Iraq into a terrorist haven, so they can't back out now but the price still seems crazy. Going to be quite the pickle for whoever takes over office.

What more fire trucks ????

Get on with the program :

Firetrucks, Waterplanes and firefighter are better sent to ... let's say ... Iran.
This way, by being over ... there , you can fight them there , far from the fatherland ; So you don't have to fight them here ...

Simple, no ?

You sure they haven't requested assistance yet? Watching CNN now, firefighters say they don't have nearly enough resources to contain the fires. When Cali was having fire trouble in '03 or '04, I believe they requested assistance pretty early, and in previous years we've had Canadian firefighters and water bombers down there helping out.

This seems a lot worse so far, if they haven't requested assistance yet I don't know what they're waiting for...

I have a better solution.

Let's just overestimate how many troops we have there...
2,000,000 troops.

Let's say that it costs $3,000.00 per troop to bring them back to the U.S. and pull out of this war and cut our losses.

That's 2,000,000 x $3,000.00 = $6,000,000,000

That's a savings of $36,000,000,000.00!

Hahahaha.

$3,000 per soldier? Maybe if you're talking leaving everything behind and running for the nearest plane/ship, and then you've got to take into account the amount of lost equipment.

Bush is an idiot, but even he wouldn't be staying in Iraq for shits and grins. Everyone knows it's a clusterfuck out there, but the mistake was made when we went in. It's easy to jump on the bandwagon and cry about new requests for money, but that money isn't exactly going toward gold-plated toilets for the presidential washroom.

Let's say we wanted to just cut and run. Full withdrawal from Iraq; all US troops and equipment. I'd be amazed if we could do it at a cost less than a 200% increase in the number of troops out there, and over $100bn, just for withdrawal. That's "Screw you guys, we're going home", and loading up everything and heading home. Mind, that's doing it in a manner that's relatively safe for our troops and equipment, so we could probably shave some cash off if we're willing to cut corners there.

Of course, we could just drop everything and pretend we never went out there. Really, those soldiers out there are just going to cost us even more in the long run, if we bring them back. Better to let them learn Arabic and find a hut to crash in til they can milk enough goats to buy a plane ticket home.

... you obviously didn't understand what I was getting at. My point was that the money could be spent much better on things that you need right at home. For instance California is saying they don't have all the necessary resources to fight these fires.. so why not invest in things that will prevent these fires from spreading so fast, some experimental things etc. Spend the money on improving the life of your citizens in America. Pouring more and more money into this war that should be over by now is pointless at this point.

In addition to the money for the Pentagon, Bush asked for $6.9 billion for the State Department to support diplomacy and development in Iraq and Afghanistan, and $200 million for other agencies, bringing the total request to $196.4 billion.
What does that mean exactly?

He (Bush) works very closely with the international bankers. The more money he spends on the war, the more the government has to borrow from the international bankers. In turn he get's a piece of that borrowed money just for making it happen. It's all one big plan for all of them to stay rich. He's doing this on his way out of office along with working very closely with the mexican government. All of this is done with the international bankers best interest at hand and in turn, bush makes money. When the US, Canada, and Mexico all become one, we will share the same dollar known as the amero. This money will still be borrowed from the international bankers and bush will still get a cut. So while he's still in office, bush recently signed a bill allowing mexican semi trucks to travel further into the U.S. Not to mention, Mexico has a very big oil presence. None of these decisions are made to better the people. All of these decisions are made for the better of the big boys club.

The International Bankers run everything. Please do not ever forget that.

Iraq war could cost US over $2 trillion, says Nobel prize-winning economist

Quote:
The real cost to the US of the Iraq war is likely to be between $1 trillion and $2 trillion (£1.1 trillion), up to 10 times more than previously thought, according to a report written by a Nobel prize-winning economist and a Harvard budget expert.

More:

The $2 Trillion Dollar War

A leading economist says the true cost of Iraq is far higher than President Bush claims -- and America will pay the price for decades to come.

They have spent close to 200 billion this year alone and close to 1 trillion total on both the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.

The irony is the imbecile could not get past a credit check with a real banker - they'd recommend the 'corporation' be liquidated and closed down if they saw the accounts.

Sure, it has been an issue of borrowing from eg China, Japan, Mexico and numerous other nations for years now - and even borrowing off "third world countries" - awesome. These daily borrowings are well into the billions and it's out of control and past the stage for more credit/loans.

That debt situation obviously carries other great risks in that creditor nations can change their policy and can seriously affect dollar values. Forgetting wars and political crap - this pathetic alleged fiscal policy is just not even sane. The country is no longer self-sustaining and has very little prospects - at least in the next ten years ahead.

100:1 there will be a major credit sqeeze at various levels (including internationally) in the next few years - tho it may already have started. When that rolls into full swing - it's a hell of a problem to stop, if it can even be stopped.

Personally, I support death squads for idiocy and incompetence

So that's like what, 125 euros?

Maybe Britain can float us a loan.
