Learned Lot About Europe Watching NFL

I just learned a lot about europe watching the Dolphins Giants game. They were booing at the end when the Giants were running out the clock.

What do you think about their take on sports from this?

They demand the same excitement from our football that their cricket matches produce?

They call it "bad sportsmanship" when that sort of thing happens......

Why play the clock when you should be playing the other team?

We're used to soccer - or as we call it Football - and its much higher tempo. We're used to tackles flying in and end to end play. NFL is too boring for us.

Ya know it's really funny as "boring" as the NFL is to England, I find it quite humerous that the stadium sold out as quickly as it did. Also with that being said from what I am told by the numerous brits that I know it would have sold out ten times over.

Also, I know at least 20 guys in London that watch the NFL religously. Every decent englishman that I have ever met has respect for our version of football and I have had the reverse for Rugby and soccer.

As far as talent. Ha, show me 1 rugby player that makes anywhere near an NFL starter salary and with that being said, show me a rugby player that isn't built exactly like the guy next to him.

The NFL is built on different aspects. Sizes of the guys, speed, quarterback etc. I do have my respect for the other games, but don't go being assholes about ours.

Gotta love digital shit talking. Now excuse me, I am watching the PATS play the skins. GO PATS!

Here is a pic of the real rugby for ya......

As far as the booing, yeah strategy and so forth is a big part of the NFL. But I do get pissed off myself sometimes when they let the clock run out.

Actually I thought of it as a compliment to their sportsmanship, but wanted to hear all the other opinions first.

I am a huge NFL fan though and sometimes forget how Americanized I am

Unless you grew up in Boston, then you're life wasn't boring it was HELL until recently.

Oh, shit. Brady actually just had a turnover.

I know, and they fixed it quickly, but at this point I'm going for stats so I don't fall asleep watching them destroy everyone.

Next week ought the be awesome. Indy and Pats undefeated at this point in the season is going to be bigger than the superbowl.

Dumb ass Los Angeles entertainment capitol of the World will probably black it out like they did Dallas and Patriots but I have my sports bar to go to

eh okey.. how many soccer games have you watched? running out the clock is very common and happens in just about every game..

most sports are fun to watch (I even watch baseball from up here) but you got to know the rules and get into the teams to enjoy them.. rugby isn't broadcasted up here, but give me a few months and tons of games and I'm sure I'll love that aswell..

We're used to fast paced sports, but even when people play the clock out in football (soccer) people start boo'ing so it isn't really anythin to do with just NFL.

No, you're right. I didn't know that. I don't watch soccer but it's a personal thing.

The mexicans out here love it and one night way back when bledsoe had his splint in his finger, the mexicans in this mexican restaurant I was at changed it to a soccer game during his comeback against miami.

Now I hate soccer and am oppossed to any immigration reform

That's interesting to know. I just learned a lot between this post and the last. Seriously, I didn't think soccer worked the clock at all.

most common thing in soccer is to keep the ball out of play creating throwins, corners, changing players etc.. its different from us sports since the clock is always going even though the ball is out of play..

the refs are supposed to add time, but in reality that doesn't happen.. can't say I like it, but I'd do the same if we were up by one and we needed the win

American football is a complex sport to grasp because there are a thousand factors to consider when betting or predicting a winner. Even the direction the wind is blowing on game day can give a significant advantage to an underdog team. Playing in different at altitudes (Mile High Stadium) versus playing in Miami. The complexity of how different factors can effect the outcome of the game is what makes American football amazing.

From reading your posts in this thread I agree with you. You are very Americanized as you call it. Thats not a bad thing in anyway shape or form. Your pic however of the rugby players is pretty funny. I mysefl am not a rubgy fan, I love soccer but rugby players are anything but pussys man, y ou just have to watch one game to see that!

I agree with your statement about the NFL match in London could have sold out ten times over, If I lived anywhere near London I would have went to the game just to sample what its all about.

For me tho, nothing will come close to soccer matches. My team is Celtic, I am a season ticket holder and when our stadium is full with 60,000 fans(like it is every home game) all willing the team on to victory it just doesn't come better than that. Especially in the Champions League nights. Soccer has so much passion about it, much more than any other sport in the world.

But like I say, I would love to go to a NFL match to sample it all and see what its all about. Likewise with Basketball, I would kill to go to a Miami Heat game. I was in Miami in 2006 for the play offs and I got caught up in the occassion! It was excellent.

That wasn't my pic with the rugby guys, but you're right it is funny. We have a Celtics team here too, basketball. In fact the rumor is Jack Nicholson is such a Lakers fan who hates them because they are a rival, wouldn't permit the actors portraying south boston irish gangsters in the movie The Departed to wear Celtic jackets.

If you know anything about Southie, that's like filming a New York setting without seeing a yankee's cap.

Just thought you might find this funny

I watched the Departed last week, great movie. Didn't know that about Nicholson tho! The Celtic name is associated the world over. With my fav soccer team its down to the Irish - likewise with the Basketball team I guess?? not really sure.

The club has a big history to it, and its amazing being at the Champions League games when the biggest teams come to play at our place. Recently we just beat AC Milan 2-1. The atmosphere is something special. It would have to be witnessed to realise what I'm talking about. No one could come to a game that I'm describing then not have an interest in Soccer.

I guess maybe NFL and Basketball are like that for you guys. Next time I'm in Miami I defo wanna go to a Heat game.

hmm doesn't seem very complex or amazing to me.. sure, the tactics might be advanced as hell, but the top teams win 70-75% of their games.. just like any other sport.. wind etc is a factor in most other sports aswell..

Actually I was never a big basketball fan even growing up in Celtics land. I was the retarded kid who rooted for the Patriots (the worst team we had), back when they had their red jerseys and little Pat The Patriot on their helmets so you can imagine how bad I'm sucking up how lethal they are right now

Not true actually. It used to be way back, but then for a while until Indy and The Pats just recently, the league was getting balanced due to that salary cap thing, but now they're going to have to do something else since it seems like a couple coaches figured out the system.

Basically you have a human chess match with genetically altered athletes

Let's face it, any sport can seem stupid if you've never taken the time to seriously watch a bunch of games and understand the rules. Alternately you can really gain an appreciation for almost any sport if you give it a chance. Soccer is full of whiners and divers and NFL action keeps stopping after every play but both are genuinely interesting to watch. Even baseball, which is boring as hell to me, becomes interesting after you watch it for an hour or more. I even found cricket surprisingly interesting after giving it a chance. I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around basketball though, maybe because I've never given it much of a chance. Seems like every play in the highlights reel is virtually the same. Then there's a few sports that I'll never get, like bowling and darts. Why the hell are these sports on TV?

What do I think? I think that the NFL style of football is a lot more popular over in the UK and the rest of Europe than a lot of people want to admit. That's what I think.

That and, after watching today's game, I'd have to say the English fans were quite gracious, very excited to be there, very into the game and the action, and yes, they booed at the end during the strategic running out of the clock, but did anyone notice that once the game officially ended the crowd clapped loudly anyway?... Obviously in appreciation for the show that was put on for them.

I have no doubt that should another game ever be played there it will again sell out in a matter of hours (like this one did).

It kind of sucks that the Brits first live NFL game really sucked. Low scoring and lots of penalties. I couldn't even watch it after the 3rd quarter.

Not very good teams either, but I think they're trying to feed it slowly cause they know it's a soccer dominated area despite nfl europe.

Now if you had next week's game between the Pats and Indy. You guys would be rocking and celebrities would be flying over to watch it!

People that live there probably wouldn't be able to get seats. That's how it is here during play off time if you don't have season tickets.

this is fucking stupid arguing over this dumb shit.

all of you people need to fucking grow up.

NFL is a kickass sport. People get fucked up. Its rough. There are big hits and just because they wear pads does not eliminate the chance that someone could die on the field in any given game from a hit.

Rugby is a kickass sport. You could easily catch a cleat in the eye, or somewhere else, and just becuase you dont see the big dramatic hits you see in the nfl, doesnt mean you cant break a bone or snap a neck.

idiots will continue to try say one is better then the other... they are two different sports and not meant to be compared.

All you European fags who hate America, shut the fuck up and die, you filthy terrorist loving cockroaches!!!

And Americans bagging on rugby, shut the fuck up, and quit talking about a game you will never understand because your heads are so far shoved up your own ass.

Did I fucking make a jab at you? No.

From what I read of this thread, it doesnt look like my comments were directed at you.... so you can stop freaking out right now....before you paint some crazy picture in your head on who i may or may not be.

You asked peoples opinions, and I gave you mine, It almost seems that Ive somewhat agreed with you. But.. whatever you wanna think... I dont give a fuck.

Soccer (football) does the same thing. With minute clock is left, the team up does everything needed to keep the ball on the offence side. No differance.
