Would you buy a Porsche or other german cars if Germany had a speed limit?

That is basically a question which is being discussed on german TV right now. Car manufacturers claim that americans (for example) love to buy german cars cause Germany has no speed limit and the cars are developed for that. now they want to introduce a speed limit in Germany too (about 80 mp/h - 130 km/h) and the companies fear that they will sell less cars and it will hurt the economy.

any opinions?

What?
Umm no, do you not understand we bought German cars like Porcshe because of hotwheels, the cool posters and hollywood told us too. It had nothing to do with some magical no speed limit that most of us never learned about until much after our desire for them was preset.

I think that's BS.
If cars would be designed according to speed limits then most cars in europe wouldn't go faster then 120 km/h.
People by fast cars because well........ they can be fast and people don't look at any speed limit in either the manufacturors country or the country the buyer lives in.

you can send in comments to that TV show by email, too bad it's over now. i should have forwarded this to them. and actually you are probably right, most of the people have no idea that germany is the only country on this planet with highways that have (sometimes) no speed limit.

although - i like the "no limit" thing - driving 250 km/h is fun.

I think it make a sub-conscience difference. Not just that they can go fast but can go fast for long periods of time, dependable fast.

I really doubt this will go through. I mean, we had the green party in the government for seven years and nobody was really talking about it during these seven years. Just because the SPD has a brain fart now doesn't mean it's actually gonna happen

don't think so either - but i was mostly interested if people outside Germany really care about that or if it will influence their decision on buying a german car. something german car manufacturers claim it would

people in the US buy german cars for quality and prestige and because american cars for the most part (at least historically) are absolute shit... not because of various speed limits in germany.

Won't happen soon and when there will be a speed limit we will have flying cars anyway.

One of the best Autobahn in Germany is the A5, my home racing track :D
Sucks that Audi limits it's top speed to 150mph though.

People buy corvettes even with american speed limit so this is BS.

But don't start speed limit because this means license requirements will become slack and stupid people will get to drive and you will have more death on the road even with lower speeds.

i see that in czech republic. speed limit is 130 km/h, but 25% of the people have bought their license and "learned" driving on some backyard. much more accidents than in germany although they are supposed to drive more slowly

it's a bullshit idea because of the whole climate debate. they think by having a speed limit they will save the planet. actually it would lower the yearly CO2 output by 0,4%

it would help more if they forbid beans that make people fart methane

I buy Porsche's because they are reliable, safe, strong, sexy and have a 0 to 60 that knocks the shit out of most other cars. My 911 twin turbo had a reworked (blueprinted) engine modified transmission and i got 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds. I got stopped twice with this car in the UK for doing 120 in a 30 limit and let off both times. Why did they let me off#1 im an old fart #2. i gave them a test drive in the car. That would never happen here in San Diego, it would be straight to jail. Anyway i digress, if Germany changed the speed limit to 10 mph i would still buy a Porsche over any other car.

I wouldn't worry about it too much... with bush running wild no Americans will be able to afford a German car anyway...
