What is the best Video Converter (Xvid to Mpeg for Adobe Premier Editing) - GoFuckYourself.com

I need to convert an Xvid file from my camera to a file I can load into Adobe Premier. It does not like the Xvid codec. I need to find a good software since I will be doing this very often now.

TMPGENC is not working, I've tried a few versions, and it will not load the Xvid. Even though from what I have read Xvid is supported.

When I say the best I mean the one with the least problems, most supported codec, and one without much messing around. I can just slap the videos in there convert them and go right into importing into Premier.

I have 640x480 Xvid MP4 video that I want to get into Adobe Premier for editing. I know sometimes Premier can load Xvid. But what I have read tells me it's hit or mess doing it that way. It might import but there are many more issues down the road in the editing process.

BTW No I'm not shooting content.

Any help would be great. I know all of you content producers, and video gurus will have me fixed up in no time.

If you are going to be doing this very often as you say,- even if you are not filming content per se- you are better off using a different video camera that records in DV or HDV, instead of a consumer camera that records in a compressed format like Xvid. Premiere Pro is made to edit digital video, and now HDV with the newer version of Premiere Pro and you will have to keep making conversions to edit your footage otherwise.

If you have this irreplaceable footage that you want to find a way to edit in the meantime, I would try one of several video converters out there that might be able to convert from this file with the Xvid codec to a format that Premiere Pro can import. Try VideoCharge or Smart Video Converter.

You might also try to import these Xvid codec files into Premiere Pro and if they do import without crashing the program, immediately render if necessary and output to AVI. And if that works then re-import the resulting exported AVI files into Premiere Pro and use that as raw footage to edit with from there.
