Digg.com - Idiot drives Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 219 MPH on public road

http://digg.com/offbeat_news/Idiot_d...on_public_road

Sound familiar?

The Digg leads to Autoblog

Quote:
The Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 is a pretty incredible piece of machinery. A road car capable of speeds one would normally associate with an open-wheel racer will always be impressive, especially when you consider it's laden with government-mandated safety equipment, plus niceties like a stereo and air conditioning. Only a fool would explore the car's outer performance limits on public roadways, however. That's best saved for a closed course, and if you can afford an LP640, you should be able to buy yourself some track time to see what it can really do.

The driver (and owner?) of the car in the video above was apparently too foolish to do that, and embarked on a quest to set the "world speed record" for an LP640 on Arizona public highways. Sure, the sound the car makes as it flies past static camera points at some 200 mph is nothing short of incredible, but the act itself is disturbing, because no matter how late at night this film was taken, there are other drivers out, and at 200 miles per hour, the margin for error is exactly zero. Make a mistake, and people are going to die.

[Source: YouTube]

The driver in this case pushes his luck three separate times. On his first run, he makes it to 211 mph according to his trip computer, and he ultimately lays off after overtaking a car that was braking in another lane. You can hear him say in the video, "I didn't even know that he was there. I didn't see him." No, and chances are that he didn't see you either. 211 wasn't enough, so on the next attempt, the driver hits 214. Once again, he is forced to back off because he comes up on another car traveling in his direction. He then intones, "214. We could have got even more if it wasn't for this car in front of us." Yes, how inconsiderate of that other car. The third time's the charm, and we see him take a sweeping curve at 170 on his way to an indicated top speed of 219. The video closes with the driver telling the camera, "I'm the driver and this was the world speed record for the LP640. 219 miles per hour. Try to beat it."

We don't know what the sanctioning body for this particular "world speed record" is -- the National Council of Imbeciles, perhaps? In any case, we recommend you don't try to beat it. At least not like these clowns, who put unwitting drivers on a public road at risk just so they could stroke their own egos.

He has a shit load of other Youtube videos of him doing crazy shit on public roads. Including a near head on collision that he attributes to his driving skills.

If that's true he's not gonna have a license for much longer. After that, if he keeps at it he will meet the same fate as Joe Francis.

I'm guessing not much.

I've been busted three times at speeds from 120mph to 150mph. Each time it was knocked down to a regular speeding ticket, a small fine, and a single point on my license.

Did your 150mph ticket make the news as a "Criminal Investigation"?

they dont drop the sentence when its on the news and they're trying to make an example out of him to save face.

but then again they will have to prove he really did it, and in your case you got caught red handed.

Yup thats the key. Prove that he was driving. And most likely they will never be able to do that.

I think the most that will happen is the Lambo gets impounded for a day or two. With a good lawyer he'll beat this easy.

Not the smartest thing to videotape but without the original tape and proof he was driving I doubt much will happen although I am sure he'll have a police tail every time that car is spotted to make sure he is not speeding. Hopefully he doesn't make videos of the Veyron when he gets it.

Once they find out that the person driving that Lambo is a man who made his fortune from PORNOGRAPHY, it's gonna really get ugly...

Wow, what a way to bring all kinds of unnecessary attention to yourself....You can pull the 205mph site but you CAN'T pull FTV no matter what so you're now a sitting duck in the pond with Dick Cheyney coming up through the tall grass...

If his voice can be heard and compared then they can prove it....Also, if I made some CP, made a CD and uploaded it, and destroyed the original tape, the fact that they can't get the ORIGINAL tape would get me off scott free?

For some reason I have a feeling that between archives and other means that haven't been addressed yet, finding the owner will be a piece of cake.

I mean, how many Lamborghini Murcielago LP640's are there in the Phoenix area?

I dont post much here anymore but this guy is a dumb as a fucking rock when it comes to common sence. The video clearly shows his face in the video that he is going 219, and there are so many of his other videos on the net of him in the same car and his tag and even some pics and videos of him sitting in and standing next to the car its not going to be hard to show in the court of law that he is the owner and driver of the car.

Big difference between the scenario you mentioned and this. Yours would be a crime no matter what. In the speeding video did you see the driver? Can you confirm the voice was not a voice over? When was the video shot? Is it a year old, two years old or taken last week? Is it a fake video? We all know the answers but knowing them does not prove them in court if that was the case OJ would be in jail right?

I think they will try to seize the car. Current law allows the property to be guilty and seized. Since government lawyers are free if this confrontation happens kiss the car goodbye it won't be worth the legal fees.

You do know that even if you print something from your computer to your printer, there is some kind of code embedded in the paper so that it can be tracked? Now I doubt that they would go to those extremes to find the driver but if you create digital media, there's ALL KINDS of forensic evidence attached to them
