New Google Service = Huge traffic potential
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB119612660573504716.html
Google is preparing a service that would let users store on its computers essentially all of the files they might keep on their personal-computer hard drives -- such as word-processing documents, digital music, video clips and images, say people familiar with the matter. The service could let users access their files via the Internet from different computers and mobile devices when they sign on with a password, and share them online with friends. It could be released as early as a few months from now, one of the people said.Commentary: There's probably going to be a lot of drama about this regarding a) privacy issues and b) copyright issues. Also, there's been services like Xdrive and others that failed along the way. With that said, by creating an open platform for shared files and media for its HUGE installed user base, Google might be creating a huge traffic pool. Promotions and idea viralization within this space will probably follow the same lines and methods as other social media spaces. The key is to create branded media that people would want to share and therby spread your brand/message. |

This seems more of a 1 to 1 service, between the user and Google's shared drive. I don't see how people could get traffic from this service specifically unless there's interaction between the users amongst each other and it doesn't seem to be the case here.

It allows the users to share media with friends. Depending on how the final version of the platform is engineered, this might have traffic potential in terms of the branding on the media itself being shared.

If it has a feature where users can tag content as "public" for other users to seach and find, yes, this could be a huge marketing opp.

Also, if it plugs in to Google's OPEN SOCIAL initiative. That would vastly enlarge the group of people that can search for media within the network.
