What Was Your Worst Christmas Gift Ever??????

What gift did you receive that you still think of today because it was so bad?

One year a family member gave me an 8 pack of cheap (solid gray) tube socks. I think I just threw them into the garbage.

I was also given a "coo coo clock, but it was from a real old aunt. It was still bad and I ended up giving it to someone (I worked with) who loved coo coo clocks.

How about YOU?

Ties. Any and all of em.

I work at home, in an office on my second floor.

I do NOT meet clients in a tie-ever. I do not need ties.

Please stop.

My parents bought me a small piece of coal wrapped in a cardboard box that looked like a remote controlled car.

I will never forgive them for that. Ever.

...it was a damn good idea.

A bottle of Old Spice. Got fruit cake once too. Sadly they both came from the same people. They always seem to get me the worst gifts. Last year I think it was some generic Christmas music on cassette. Yes, I said CASSETTE.

These people are old though, so they have senility as an excuse.

Maybe those old ass motherfuckers know what they are doing? I bet they KNOW EXACTLY what they are doing and they are hoping we all blame it on "senility" or whatever!

Old people always give the most horrendous gifts, and I suspect they know just what they are doing. Saving a ton of time and money and expecting that nobody will call them on it. FUCKING OLD PEOPLE! BUY A REAL GIFT!!!

I bet it is a fucking game to those old bastards. They probably want to see how far they can push the horrible gift thing until someone calls them on it.

I bet they all sit around and laugh at us!!!

This could be true. I know the Christmas cassettes they gave me were actually something they received for free because of purchasing something from Publishers Clearing House. They probably just go home after Christmas and "tee hee" about how shitty their gifts were.

"We got them good this year, we didn't even have to pay for it!"

That is so wrong!

BUT, it made me wonder . . . . did you do something pretty bad to deserve some coal? Maybe you did something so bad that you earned the old "Coal in a Remote Control Car Box" trick????

A gift is a gift and it's the thought that counts & don't matter what the gift is.

One particular Christmas I recall that left me feeling bad when I was a young child. I opened a gift from my mother, who was a single mom working 2 dead end low wage jobs that season, & she spent a great deal of money on a hand sculpted ceramic plaque that was personalized. I didn't particularly like it, but I accidentally dropped it and it broke. I felt so badly about it because of how much effort my mother made to get gifts for my sister & I. I didn't particularly like the plaque, but I could tell that my mom was proud about getting it & it made her sad that it broke.

I think you should all count your lucky stars that someone gives you anything at all, whether you like it or hate it.

I remember a couple of years when I was around 15 and 16, my mom and stepdad took off to Florida for a couple of months around Christmas. They left me home alone, knowing I was perfectly responsible to take care of the house. At Christmas I would put up the tree even though it was just for me...and on Christmas Day I would open the freezer and grab a furkey TV dinner and eat it. My mother never phoned either year to wish me a Merry Christmas, nor did she leave or send a gift. When she went away for a couple months she would generally leave me with $20 and a freezer full of TV dinners and that was it. No money for milk or fruit or groceries. They were VERY wealthy.

I will never forget those days, and at that time, I would have loved it if an aunt gave me some stupid tube socks or if I got an ugly coo coo clock, at least I would have known there was someone out there thinking of me.

Christmas is a HUGE deal at my house now. That tree goes up, the house is decorated inside and out and I spoil my kids completely rotten. They will NEVER EVER feel know what it is like to feel all alone at Christmas.

When my daughter went to a remote resort to work all the kids there would be alone for Christmas, and there was no way I would make my daughter feel alone. So my other daughter and I baked for 3 days and sent several huge boxes of food, christmas cookies and gifts up to her. She was also sent a Christmas tree, decorations and everything else.

Christmas Eve and Day was open house at her room at the dorm. She made it an open invitation to all staff. I sent up a good number of general gifts (male and female) to my daughter so that if anyone mentioned they never got anything from home my daughter gave them one of the general gifts. They may not have been the best gift they ever got, but I made sure that every kid away from home at that resort, felt the spirit of Christmas and didn't go without a gift.

My kids are spoiled at Christmas, but I make sure they know that giving is just as much a part of christmas as getting.
