It actually might. I remember a few years back when Dallas was about to have an undefeated season and the Dolphins were sucking that year. They went to Dallas and in the snow beat the Cowboys to retain their rights to being the only team to have a perfect season.

They actually did the same thing to chicago in 85, but this time Shula opened his mouth about spygate and the Patriots season being tainted so I wouldn't be betting my house on the dolphins have too much of a chance despite divisional rivalries or anything else.

I was actually a little shocked by the jets score today but not too much considering the elements and the fact that the game wasn't as close as the score might mislead someone to believe

Yeah, I think the Patriots get their 16-0, but that's going to suck even worse if Indy pulls it off in the playoffs. They're looking good again and Peyton's starting to get me a little concerned.

What a relief

I've been a Dolphin fan almost as long as the Dolphins have been playing. I'm not sure what year the team entered the NFL but around 1968 my sister was a cheerleader for them and we used to get free tickets to the games.

Back then they were the " Dolphin Dolls " and the girls ranged from age 6 to 17. The older ones cheered and they all did a halftime show. Then the Dolphins hired Don Shula and got a lot better so they stopped giving us free tickets

One great memory I have is a Monday night football game against the Bears back when Dick Butkus was the league's badass and we sat right below the press box at the Orange Bowl and we could see Meredith, Cosell and I think Gifford.

Then one year the Dallas Cowboys invented the " Hot " cheerleader and the rest of the teams had to keep up so the " Dolphin Dolls " were let go and a new era in cheerleading began.

It was good times back then and Miami was actually a pretty nice place to live.

I know that hope springs eternal with fans during the offseason, so you'll take what I have to say with a grain of salt. That being said....

This team has lost 6 games by 3 points this year. We've lost our starting QB, our 1st and 2nd and 3rd string running backs, 4 safeties, and our all pro mike linebacker.

Next year we get back Yeremiah Bell (SS), Rinaldo Hill (FS), Zach Thomas (MLB), Ronnie Brown (RB), Jessie Chatman (RB), and possibly Trent Green (QB)

We have the 1st overall pick in the draft.
Our 2nd round pick is really a 1st round pick because the Patriots had to forfeit their 1st round pick, so our pick will be #32.
We also have 2 more second round picks.
Even if you don't count rounds 3-7 in the draft that's 4 impact players added to next year's roster in addition to the players that we'll have returning from injury.
We also have 25 million in cap room to pursue guys like Bob Sanders, Albert Haynesworth, and Asante Samuel in the offseason.

Like I said, I know fans always hope for the best and paint these rosy scenarious on how their team will be good, but when you look at the talent infusion that's coming to a roster full of guys who have been in every game except for 3 this year, predicting a huge turnaround isn't really a stretch.

One of my fondest memories was when we let that guy out of prison to plow the field and won by 3 points during that snow blizzard. The patriots used to be one of the biggest jokes in the nfl.

Not trying to rub anything in, but thought you might get a kick out of that

Actually, I think the patriots still have a first round from a trade they did with frisco either last year or the year before that they were saving for just such an emergency that has arrived

And for a player worth wasting it on either out of college or a good trade (I have my eye on LT next )

They have San Francisco's 1st rounder, which may end up being #2 overall.

But my point was the Dolphins 2nd round pick is where the Patriots would have picked if they didn't have to forfeit it.

Actually the score in football means very little on how two teams play each other. The sport has more to do with match ups, division rivalries, coaching, film study etc.

That's why it's one of the hardest games to predict a spread on. The better team usually wins but the score is no indication how competitive it was a lot of times. Coaching usually wins in the end

Didn't the Dolphins hand over Wes Welker to the Patriots on a silver platter?

No more deals like that, please.

They're paying for mistakes like that this year big time. I wouldn't write off nextg year though, like lenny and a few others have said already... anything can happen between now and then.

They didn't want to pay him the big $$, he's a good player but having brady and moss on the same field can make anyone look good.

I don't remember the Dolphins having much of a rilvary with the Patriots back then. It was more Buffalo and Jim kelly that always used to be a thorn in our sides.

Miami will get things turned around. With a limited number of playing time, I just hate it for guys like Jason Taylor that have to go through this after being such a great player for the team.

Anyways, congrats to your Patriots

They deserve everything they have achieved and I know you're riding high. That's because I was there in the stands for the '72 Dolphin season and I know exactly how you feel

So what you're saying is Miami should have coughed up enough for a decent quarterback and KEPT Welker, instead of playing it the tighwad way and losing a marquee player?

Agreed :D

However, I wouldn't downplay his talent just because he's playing with Moss and Brady. His numbers don't lie, and it is after all HIM that still has to catch the ball, and run.

He's now widely regarded as one of the Dolphins biggest mistakes of late.

He was a very good third down receiver in miami and a great special teams player, stick any receiver "average" receiver on that team and they would have big numbers. When the fins traded him i thought it was going to be a huge mistake, and it has.

All great facts. However, we have not picked smartly in the draft for some time except for "maybe" Ted Ginn.

Do you think Cameron will be back?

The Dolphin's really need to acquire an elite quarterback somehow. Not a 37 year old or a guy with a bum knee. We need to Tom Brady :-)

No more deals like that, please.

They're paying for mistakes like that this year big time. I wouldn't write off nextg year though, like lenny and a few others have said already... anything can happen between now and then.
You're way off base on that assesment.

When the trade was made almost every GM in the biz thought the dolphins got the better end of it.
They also thought the dolphins got good value for Chris Chambers, whom they also got a 2nd round pick for.

Welker looks awesome because of the QB who's throwing to him and the other weapons on that team that defenses have to account for.
But he's just a #3 slot receiver and good special teams player. Even after the year he's had in New England, you'd be hard pressed to find a GM willing to give up their 2nd and 7th round picks this year for him.

Agreed :D

However, I wouldn't downplay his talent just because he's playing with Moss and Brady. His numbers don't lie, and it is after all HIM that still has to catch the ball, and run.

He's now widely regarded as one of the Dolphins biggest mistakes of late.
What the hell are you talking about "coughed up enough for a decent quarterback?"

Who was the quarterback who was available that the dolphins didn't get? Or were supposedly too cheap to pay for? Don't confuse the dolphins with the marlins ok?

1 year is way too early to judge the results of a trade, especially when it was a player for draft picks trade.

It's laughable that you call Welker a "marquee player" too. Randy Moss is the marquee player, Wes Welker's stats this year are what happens when the "marquee player" gets double coverage and the other team has to cover Welker with a linebacker. Line Welker up against another team's #1 cornerback and he never gets open.

The dolphins knew all along they wanted Ted Ginn in the draft, so why would they pay big money to the guy who was currently their return specialist and #3 wideout when they were planning on drafting someone in the 1st round who would take that job away from him anyways?

They took the draft picks, and picked Samson Satele, who has started the whole year at center and is going to anchor our O-line for years to come. That was a much bigger need for the dolphins than WR.

If Welker was still with the dolphins I seriously doubt it would have made any difference in this year's record.

Something else I find hilarious is that the Patriots got RANDY MOSS for a 4th round pick, they got Welker for a 2nd and a 7th, yet all anyone wants to talk about is how the Pats supposedly "stole" Welker.

The Dolphin's really need to acquire an elite quarterback somehow. Not a 37 year old or a guy with a bum knee. We need to Tom Brady :-)
This was the first year Randy Mueller had full control over the draft, and IMO it was a good draft. Time will tell if it was a great one.

I'm very impressed with Mueller's track record in Seattle and in New Orleans. (living in the NOLA area I used to read alot about him in the local papers)

Cameron will be back, today's win was all he needed I think.

As for the QB position, there are only 5-8 teams in the league that are really "set" at the QB position. That's a max of 8 teams out of 32. 24 teams have questions at the QB position.

There aren't many people out there who have a better track record of developing young QB's than Cam Cameron, which is a good reason to have him around for awhile.

Okay, I may have overstated it a bit with the "marquee player" thing. He's certainly playing like he's close to being one though.

I don't know who was available as a QB at the time this all went down, but there had to be somebody.... no? I have trouble believing that in all of football and college ball there wasn't one standout worth a few extra mill.

Want me to really mess with your head? .... they should have made a huge offer to Garcia.

lol

Hey, the guy has reawakened the Bucs hasn't he?

Of course not, they don't have Brady (or anyone close to his calbre).

Most receivers are only as good as the guy tossing the meatball to them.

I still say if the Dolphins had of kept him and found themselves a better QB they'd have had a better season. Seems like several announcers agree with me on that, as several this past week alone pointed out that Miami all but handed him over to the Pats, and mentioned it in order to illustrate why they are having such a bad season.

So I don't think my earlier comments were all that far off base. (except for the "marquee player" thing)

In other news the Giants got booed off the field at half time against the Chiefs, ha ha.

Yeah everyone's saying they had the wind knocked out of their sails when they lost to New England. I don't know why, they played exceptionally well in that game, they have nothing to be demoralized about.

If anything that game should have shown them how great they still are, since they were one of the few teams that gave the Pats a challenge this year so far.

In other news the Giants got booed off the field at half time against the Chiefs, ha ha.
The one guy they passed on that they should have grabbed was Drew Brees.

Instead they traded a 2nd round pick for Daunte Culpepper. (This was the previous management though)

In this past offseason, Trent Green was really the best guy available. Poor QB play is a plague on the league right now. The only real solution is to draft guys and develop them yourself. There aren't "marquee" guys available no matter how much money you're willing to spend.

As for the announcers saying they handed Welker over to the Pats, how convenient of them to forget to mention that the Fins got a 2nd and 7th round pick for him, and all the Raiders got for Randy Moss was a 4th rounder.
But the Dolphins are the ones who they say "gave their player away".

They just like to sensationalize things, go figure, it's television.

They seriously had a shot at getting Brees? I did not know that.

Well truthfully, they may have gotten that "2nd and 7th round pick for him"... but they are still having the poorest season of any team in the league... so what does that say for the trade?

The Raiders have at least put up a few wins, but yeah... they're no great shakes either.

As for QB's being at a premium for a lot of teams right now, how about those Niners having their #1 AND #2 guys out, they bring in their 3rd stringer and BAM... the guy looks like he was born to it in his first start.

I hope this Shaun Hill is the real deal, sure seems like it.

You're way too quick to judge things man.
You're judging a trade by how each team does in the season following, and a QB based on one performance.

Trading Welker for draft picks is similar to trading a guy in baseball for minor leaguers...it's gonna take a few years to see how the "prospects" turn out before you can judge the deal.

You're basically trying to blame the dolphins poor season on this one trade, and that's far from the truth. Sure it cost us one pretty decent player, but him being on our roster right now isn't the difference between 1-13 and making the playoffs.

FWIW I think most football people would agree that you could take just about any team's 3rd WR and put him on the Patriots and he would put up the same type of numbers Welker is this year.

I was actually speaking as to what those announcers were saying, not anything I was saying. I know full well that most of the time these things take time to produce any real results.

But by the same token I'm sure that the Dolphins didn't have an 0-13 start to the season planned. I'm sure they hoped for the best for THIS year in spite of what you'd have everyone believe. Yes, shit takes time, but no one in that organization was thinking "'yeah, it's okay if we lose every game this year because those trades we made last year should pay off by NEXT year."

lol

Whup, I forgot, Lenny... I'm not trying to blame their poor season on that one trade. Nowhere did I say that, sorry if it came off that way. All I was doing was mentioning about what those announcers were saying about the 'fins poor season. They talked about a lot of things contributing to it, but the mention of the Welker trade was one thing that stood out in the conversation.

Don't worry, I'm definitely not sitting here thinking it's all about that one trade. It was worth talking about though. Some obviously think it was a bad move. Obviously we'll know better if that's true by this time next year.

Anyways, congrats to your Patriots

They deserve everything they have achieved and I know you're riding high. That's because I was there in the stands for the '72 Dolphin season and I know exactly how you feel
Thanks. Actually this year will be nothing compared to the year they took out the Rams in that first superbowl win. That feeling will never come back again. It's like your first line of cocaine or first piece of pussy

It's also what makes me nervous about them having such a good record with that target on their back. It would be nice to see brady with four rings (or five or six or seven ) and the afc have a quarterback comparable to Joe Montana (I think he has four too).

Anyway, Peyton Manning and the Colts were overrated for almost a decade, but I think they finally came up to the expectations everyone had on them so that should be a good game.

I'm also very leary of Green Bay in the Superbowl. Way too much experience from their main guy. I'd much rather play the cowboys (no disrespect to them).

I was happy for the win also.

So, do you think Wayne H. will still sell the team?
