I'm thinking of buying a 58" flat screen TV - input please!

I'm thinking of buying a 58" flat screen TV, but my girlfriend keeps telling me that it's just too big and I should settle for a new 42" one (I have an old one, but the collors are not THAT great anymore).

This is exactly the one I'm thinking of buying: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....1906769 39932

Do you guys agree with her? Should I just go for a 42" intead? Is this just too much??

Any other input on bigger TVs is appreciated.

..there's no such thing as too big. Women always think a big tv will be "ugly" .. If you watch sports, HD on a big ass screen (55"+) is second to none.

I have a 61", and we heart it very, very much.

That said, it fits the size of our living room. Something I read when I was considering my purchase may help you. Find a big ass piece of cardboard, and cut out the exact dimension of the tv you are thinking about getting. Put it where you'd put the tv, and see how it fits with the room dimensions.

Why not split the difference and go with a 50? I love mine...

How far away are you going to be from the screen? If it's not more than 12ft, then you should be great with a 42 or 50...plus, the price increase seems to raise much higher in that jump from 50 on up.

I'm about 10 to 12 ft away and it seemed overwhelmingly large at first.

I have this bad boy in a room that is about 10' x 14' , the front of the couch is approx 8' from the screen - and it's not too big:

I'll do that to see how it feels.

Thanks for the input.

I was going to suggest anything Samsung. I couldn't be happier with the unit and the service can't be beat. We had quite the ordeal with the TV that was initially delivered to us and the MORE THAN took care of us in the end.

42 is too small. My wife didn't want a 50+ for our upstairs living room so we bought a 46" and it is nice but I wold still rather have bigger. We have a 65" downstairs that is nice
