Shopping Carts
Hi, all -
For a project coming up, I'm looking for a shopping cart with some pretty specific requirements. So far, I've looked at three mainstream carts - ZenCart, X-Cart, and osCommerce. Each has their own speciality, with ZenCart being pretty well supported, osCommerce being very exensible, and X-Cart just being flat-out solid code. However, I'm looking for a way to be able to deploy many shopping carts relatively quickly, each sharing pretty much the same inventory. The project will employ the use of a drop shipper with some mainstream products, and these products would be available through these shopping carts. Although each shopping cart will have a "mandatory" product list which the Administrator will provide, products can be both removed or added by the shopping cart owner. Furthermore, when the product list is updated by the shopping cart Administrator, it will have no effect on other products that have already been removed by the shopping cart owner. ...if that makes sense. Here's a few more requirements: 1) Each shopping cart must use a "master" group of inventory, one that the hosting provider oversees. The reason for this is because the drop shipper will send us a list of their updated inventory along with quantities, and these products should not be allowed to change much (save maybe the price, description, etc etc - all by the cart owner). So, a way to force inclusion of a "master" group of products, as I said. 2) Each shopping cart should use its own payment method. X-Cart offers a "Mall" structure, but still forces the shopping cart owners to use the Administrator's payment methods - not what I want. I want each shopping cart owner to use their own established payment methods and/or gateways. 3) A pretty little Administrator interface that can control every customer shopping cart on the downline. I know that you guys have a lot of experience with shopping carts - I was just looking for some solid background information before even digging in to this project. Thanks!

I use ZenCart and I'm pretty satisfied with it.
