Blown Pupil - Scared The Shit Outta Me.

I went to the store this evening after a late afternoon nap. When I got back, I noticed my right eye was a little blurry. During a trip to the bathroom, I almost shat my pants looking in the mirror. My left pupil looked normal, but my right one was almost as big as my iris ! It would dilate a little bit with direct light, but that was about it.

While contemplating a trip to the ER, I remembered putting in some Visine-A eye drops after my nap. I had fallen asleep with my contacts on, and my eyes were beat red. I put a few extra drops in my right eye because it was really red.

I searched for naphazoline and pheniramine (the active ingredients in Visine-A, Naphcon-A, and other antihistime/red reducers). It turns out the FDA is considering putting warning labels on this stuff, and it's a common problem. It's essentially the same stuff the eye doctor uses, but not as powerful. My eye doctor actually recommended it as the most "gentle" of eye drops. Five hours later, my right pupil is still big but has come down a bit. Whew ...
