New Knight Rider: Did you watch it?

Hi -

I'm almost embarrased to say that I watched the new Knight Rider tonight, and surprise! It was actually pretty damn good. Besides the cool car, I was really impressed with the advertising. I found myself anticipating all of the Ford ads as if I was watching the superbowl. Ford owned the night - even the Chilli's ad featured a Ford... wow! This is how you advertise in a TIVO world.

Knight Rider caters to the lowest common denominator - guess you are just easily entertained...

Not only did I watch it, I DVR'ed it! It rocked! That Shelby Cobra was sooooo sweet! I didn't, however like the voice of K.I.T.T. (Knight Industries Three Thousand....instead of Two Thousand from the original)

I really wonder if the new series will be a success... The Shelby looks great, but a pretty bad choice of car for Night Rider in my opinion.

Are you for real? You open up a thread on the new Knight Rider and 75% of your post is about how good the commercials were?

Fuck the commercials. They are a pain in the ass

I was rather impressed with it. It had some good action all the way through and really tied in the old with the new very well.

At least it didn't turn out to be another "Team Knight Rider" which barely lasted a season.

It's worth watching, the 2 hour movie anyway. Jury is still out on the series to come.

It was nice to see the Hoff make an appearance at the end there.

saw it ... it was a really a throw back to the 80s action TV series like A-team and the original series but with todays technology .. the car.. meh .. not really a Ford guy .. but it could have been worse .. the movie set up the series well for those who had no idea who or what the show was about .. probably not going to watch it again unless there is nothing better on ..then again TV has really been sucking all around ..

I thought it was total cheese. But that's what I was expecting, so it was enjoyable.

I hope they do a bit more when/if there is a series.

I started to watch it, wanted to see how the car was going to be up to date.

However, I thought it was super cheesy, bad acting and dialog.

The car was cool though.

I stopped watching it after 45 minutes.

Hi -

Normally I hate commercials, but at the same time as a business owner I am always interested in how other companies advertise.

It's clear that Ford wants to sell ALL of their cars, not just mustangs. So, if you were Ford, how would you do it?

I'd say that the movie cost about $7M to make and its a good bet that Ford paid for most of that. It's a huge gamble, right? So how do you make it pay off?

Make a decent story. Leave the creatives to the creative types. Pretty actors, good FX, good production values. Viewers have to sit still and enjoy the show if you're going to sell them a car.

NExt how do you not make them TIVO past the commercials? By incorporating show elements into the commercials, thats how. But, we viewers are a sofisticated lot and will probably want to TIVO past them anyway, right? Not if they're entertaining we won't. Each commercial featured the Mustang, even while it was selling a different car. They did it with humor too and, as a viewer, I didn't feel insulted.

I'm telling you - like the show or not, but pay attention to how the ads worked. The Ford guys are smart!

Yea I thought it was pretty good. Its funny I just bought a black mustang about a month before the movie came out, so now everyone plays the knightrider theme song whenever I get into the office
