$58million hid in a shed

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7289581.stm

Jesus two sisters in Japan inhearted $73 million from their dad when he died. They didn't want to pay the inheritance tax ($28m) so they hid the money in a shed behind their house.

I can't say I really blame them, but how dumb can they be to think they can just make that much money disappear.

Just shows how much BS taxes are though.. it's very likely their dad paid taxes on the money when he earned it. Yet when he dies they have to pay almost half of it in taxes again.

Govts and their taxes are the biggest shams there are.. Just about anywhere you live you get taxed on top of getting taxed. In fact I wonder how much tax is paid on a single dollar thought it's life span.

I'm not a fan of over taxation but in this case why not pay it? In this case paying the tax would have meant what, 40% less boxes stuffed with cash in a shed? You can't spend that kind of money in cash anyway.

Plenty of people live fulfilled lives earning less than $50,000. a year and these girls inherit
$73 million and risk losing it all just to keep from paying the taxes.

If they pay the taxes and be done with it they still get $45 million. If they can't get through
life on that their lives will be unfulfillled no matter what the amount

Yea, governments really rip people off when it comes to taxes. To a certain point it makes perfect sense but when people have to start paying ridiculous amounts of taxes on inherited money and stuff it gets sketchy.

Thats absolute bull. They would have had to pay the inheritance tax. The tax lawyer might have helped them on future tax issues though...

In all seriousness I bet a $1 bill is taxed 200% or more by the time it's taken out of circulation. I think I saw somewhere the average dollar bill stays in circulation between 5 to 7 years before it's taken out and destroyed. Pretty crazy when you think about it.

All they had to do was get their dad to give them the money before he died and then they wouldnt have had to pay tax.

Or relocate to Monaco or Isle of Man and then get the money given to them from their father as an income. Then they would have paid nothing or next to nothing in tax.

If they knew anything about money the wise thing would have been to break it off into invstments. Investments to a degree are a tax shelter.

And firstly that amount money should have been tied into investments before his death.

Though in Japan who knows how it works.

America is the same way raw cash inheritance and the taxation is a crock of shit.

$1 gets made. (21 month life span... years are for coins, not paper currency)

It is sold to the system for the Federal Funds Rate or the Discount Rate (which is actually a higher rate?)

That means the money lost about 5.5% to 7.0% right off the bat.

Then Donald Trump gets it for another 6% and gives it to your boss.

Your boss gets the money and pays you with it. First he had to pay 12% in taxes on it. You get to pay 28% and then spend it at the grocery store.

There you pay another 7.75% or so.

Then they pay 12% and then their employee pays 28%... and it keeps going for 21 months...

i don't want to sound like an idiot but i have to say one of the biggest taxes or penalties that i find ridiculous is the state lottery winnings paid out up front. if you take the cash up front in CA at least, you lose about 40% of the money back to the state. why the fuck should you ever have to give the country another dime of that money??? i don't get it.
