Nope. One gallon is 3.79 liters and we pay 1.49 euros for one liter which means a gallon costs us 5,64 euros. At the terrible Euro/dollar conversion rate (1,56e for 1$) we pay ... 8,80$ per gallon.

The 8.50 calculation was made 3 weeks ago :/

One of the major difference between gas prices here and there is the fact most eu contries I know of pay hefty gas taxes to subsidies the socialized health care and other public programs

Here they dont do that. I would gladly pay 8.00 a gallon if I got free health care. I would be saving myself a ton of money

In Belgium. And for your info there is nothing like Free Healthcare here. As a freelancer, I pay 400euros / month for my social security :/

Our government takes a huge percentage on the petrol sales just like they do on alcohol or tobacco sales.

Welcome to the club. We in Canada have been paying that for quite a while now.

It's hovering around $1.10/L right now, and is about to go up.
Times that by 3.79 Litres in a US gallon and we're well over $4

And we're one of the leading oil producers. Venezuela and Saudi Arabia are leading oil producers, but their people pay under 20 cents a gallon. Something seems out of whack with that.

That is cheap, dont forget the price will need to increase 5-15% per month to follow the drop in the value of the USD.
Guess it was needed anyway, jokes about russian rupples was getting pretty old

It's a common misconception, that we just accept a slightly higher gas price in exchange for free Healthcare. We still have to pay for it. I, fo example have to pay 410$ each month. And that's the minimum.

can't relly compare.

A) Americans drive futher because our contry is bigger and more spread out and also we really don't have public transportation so we use more gas.

B) I think you have your math backwards. You really don't pay $8.80 a gallon. because you are not paying in $ you are paying in euros. See if the Euro and the $ are the same value and for every 100 euros you get paid you can get $100. Now your pay is the same yet now you can get $156. So really your 5.64 euros per gallon is the same as an American paying $3.66 which is not much higher than what people are paying now.

Europeans coming to America on vacation can get a very good deal now. For 650 euros they can get $1000. Where as before to get $1000 would have cost 1000 euros or more.

Too bad I bill my members in USD and to have the same income in Euro I should have made a 17% increase of my sales in ... 2 Months !

So yes, people earning euro from their casual job will only see the oil price raising. For us,european webmasters with a majority of us customers billed in $, we have a dropdown in the euros we see on our account AND we see the prices go up everywhere in our european country

so where are those GFY economists who tought that dollar devaluation is a great for US economy?

They better hide under rock, cause Average Joe is getting squezeed by devaluated dollar.

On the other side, you can thanks FED and its low interest rate policy for trying to save Wallstreet banks by squeezing Average Joe.

From my understanding though E85 gets worse MPG so it all evens out in the end.

The average american is thought to drive 12,000 miles/year, the average in the uk is thought to be 10,000, not really such a huge difference and im sure its similar for most or europe.

And probably 99% of people on this forum wherever they are from get paid in $ so to say he is paying $9 a gallon is relevant, even if it is 6 euros.

what you are talking about has ZILCH to do with the price of gas especially for the what 600-700 million euopeans that get paid in Euros.

WRONG.

Let's compare 2 people. Say both use the same amount of gas. Say 500 gallons a year. Both have the same income.

Person A- American makes $40,000 a year. Say gas goes up to $3.60 a gallon. That's $1800 a year or 4.5% of his yearly income.

Person B-Eurpoean makes $40,000 a year that's 62,400 Euros. Pays 5.64 Euros per gallon. That's 2800 euros or 4.49% of his yealry income. Seems about that same to me.

Hawaii has always been high because of the costs to get the gas to them. California, IIRC, has higher standards on gas which could account for the higher prices. What's even more interesting is how high Alaska is even with all their oil production - because they don't have access to processing plants, everything still needs to be shipped in. Also note that state taxes count for a lot of the price.

Yesterday in the Atlanta burbs it was $3.19 a gallon for regular - up here in the hills it's $3.29.

We still have it VERY cheap compared to many other countries in the world. Including the Northern State of Canada ;)

A gallon of E-85 contains only about 70% of the energy of a gallon of regular gasoline. So one has to take that into account when comparing prices (ie. paying $3.00 for E-85 is way too much!) because (as another poster pointed out) MPG is much worse with E-85.

Another issue, that's virtually never mentioned, is the added wear on the engine from using E-85. Even E-85 compatible engines (most these days) are likely not totally protected from the corrosive damage that E-85 can inflict on parts.

3.4/gallon of gas and my wife and I have put over 24k miles on our civic hybrid in the past 6mnths! With the kind of driving we do this seriously sucks. She works 2 jobs, one of them is 66mi ONE way and the other is 40mi ONE WAY and she works 6 nights a week for 12 hours each and then I use that car during the day, our other car sees like 500 miles/mnth and is only driven when the main car is gone LOL

$40K USD as of today = 25,532 Euros.

Another issue, that's virtually never mentioned, is the added wear on the engine from using E-85. Even E-85 compatible engines (most these days) are likely not totally protected from the corrosive damage that E-85 can inflict on parts.

Its a two year lease, i can care less what happens to the engine after that

I'll be riding my motorcycle a whole lot more.

45mpg on my bike, 12mpg in my 4x4 truck

even though I only fill my truck up once a month and it only has 20k miles on it in the 2 1/2 years that I've owned it, why pay that much for gas.. its stupid.

So really your 5.64 euros per gallon is the same as an American paying $3.66 which is not much higher than what people are paying now.
That's some f'ed up logic there, no matter how you spin it, gas in europe costs $8.80... and theorizing what if 100 euros were to equal 100 usd, is pretty flawed too, as the price of gas already takes that into account... if usd was stronger, then price of oil, and thus gas would be cheaper too...
