Dont smoke another.

Stay busy, keep a pen or pencil in your hand, and lastly you can try hard candy.

I stopped smoking 3 years ago and just about everything got so much better. Food got better, sex got better, health got better, ect...

Only thing you can do is take it one hour at a time and then one day at a time. They add some serious shit to cigarets that makes you hooked like never before so it takes some time to get that shit out of your body.

I quit and it was a bitch.. I just got really focused into work.. I went from a pack a day to 1 cigarette a night just before bed after I kicked ass taking over the adult world.... well, in my head... back then I did a ton of work and made pennies...

It took about 8 months to finally stop having that one cigarette.

I still smoke on extreme occasions... Like I am top 10 in a poker tournament with some money or I played through a lot of people to get there.

I also have an occasional cigar... And basically when I started having them instead of cigarettes completely.

If you've been smoking for any good length of time, use patches. I tried to quit many times and failed. The frst time I quit properly with patches over a month or so I did it. Haven't smoked in 8 years.

I quit on Monday.

But I am using a drug called champix (Chantix in the US) and have had no cravings whatsoever. The drug makes me feel sick for about 5 minutes then I am cool.

it's all about your mindset.

What you should do is talk to yourself and "make a deal" that you will prove to yourself just how strong your will power is. When you find yourself reaching for a cigarette just ask yourself - am I already giving up? Am i THIS weak?????

It helps me to keep going strong because I will never admit that I am too weak to do something that is really as easy as control your inner evil cravings

You can also try setting up a reward for yourself once you reach a small goal like not smoking for a week. Tell yourself you are allowed to buy yourself that new gadget you're really after or something like that.

I had made 4 men quit in my life so far. Just by hating the smokes LOL. SImple as that, if they wanted to be around me or even date me, I do not tolerate smoking or smoke breath (and i can tell if you smoked two weeks ago just by your breath!!). So,. they quit . As far as I know, only one get back to smoking a couple years later.

Good luck and prove yourself you are strong!!!

Drink a lot of water. Take deep breaths. Get exercise. Use the patches. Use the toothpicks. Try Welbutrin. Chew the gum. Try Chantix. Chew cinnamon sticks. Eat pussy. Keep your mouth busy.

I've heard about some laser treatment you can get at your ear. Suppose to work very well if you want to quit. Here's a link: http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/6-11-2006-98877.asp

Quit about 3 years ago and won't go back. It wasn't all that bad. I found the worst part keeping my hands of the smokes under stress, it was almost a ritual to smoke when the shit hit the fan.

One time, on an overseas flight, when I had a nicotine-fit, my husband gave me some Copenhagen snuff, which took care of the itch but was so nasty that I almost puked.

I quite July 1999. I use to smoke 40 smokes a day. Only 4mg but still thats alot.

I got the flu bad and was home watching TV, I still was trying to smoke but couldn't breath. I said to myself, see how long you can go without a smoke. About 2 week pasted (it was a bad flu) and still wasn't smoking.

I got back to work and the guys asked me if I wanted a smoke, I said no, but took it as a brake anyway. I was outside and someone else said Do you want one? I said Yeah ok. I lit up and puked. It was 16mg cig.

I went home sick as a dog and never picked up another smoke.

For about 3 months onwards I got 1 packet of tictacs a day. Every time I wanted a smoke I got a tictac. Seemed to help me.

It's not easy to quite, but when you do, you notice things like food tastes better and you don't have to throw $10 a day away in smokes.

Imagine it like buying a domain and giving it away.

You have to WANT to give up, no one is going to do it for you.

I quit about a month ago after watching this movie about smoking and the psychology behind it .. the first couple of days were the hardest . .felt like killing someone / assaulting anyone who looked at me bad or whatever

luckily nothing happened .. even though I almost head butted a security guard at some store after I thought he was looking at me like I might be a shoplifter and was following me in a very non discrete way !

also when i really get caught up in working on a new site project im very motivated to make something out of it and work straight for several hours and dont even think about smoking a cig

I stopped about 18 years ago in London after having LASER treatment. Worked like a charm, no pain no side effects it was easy. It been around for 30 years in Europe so im sure you can find somewhere in Holland?

I found one for a friend here in San Diego called Matrix Laser Centers
1.800-THE-CURE
They have been on local TV quite a bit and are getting about 85% success !

Very True

Poker does crazy things to the brain. I found that strongest temptation to have a smoke (after I quit) coming while playing online poker. Bars, after a meal, around friends that smoked, etc were all tough to get over, but online poker takes the cake.

I went to Europe to study and was a smoker. The Europeans smoke like chimneys, and I, naturally, attempted to keep up. So, I smoked and smoked, non-stop, even when I didn't feel like having one, and eventually I was so over smoking that I have never smoked since...Sure, I'll have one once in a while when I'm out at bars or something, but I literally smoked myself out!

So, instead of not having one, smoke 3 packs in one sitting and you'll be so disgusted that you'll never want to smoke again...Create an aversion!!!

I'm 8 years cig free...

What helped me keep focus was remembering how bad the cravings got after I had them, and realizing that if I lit up just one more smoke, all of that struggling would have been in vain, and I'd now have to start over.

That, and altoids. I would suck on them regularly and "breathe in" their fumes... helped quiet the itching.

When you get stuck in a hospital for 4 days, you quit smoking.
You get night sweats and sleep only short periods at a time, you get irritation and you even eat hospital food (blech!) and enjoy it.

The bottom line is, you make it and when you think it only took a few days, you wonder why you didnt just deprive yourself of them sooner.

Throw away all of your ashtrays and all of those cigarette butts in the garbage too! Have a burial for your old friends (it's a real emotional breakup, dont kid yourself). Haul it all to the dump then lock your keys in your car for a few days so you can't go out. You'll be done, you'll have no choice. You are a NON-smoker. Just put a period on it.

I just stopped. All those medications and patches are just there for people that don't really want to quit. If you truely don't want to smoke anymore...you'll stop.

It's a tough battle, I never smoked too much, in highschool I used to smoke 10 cigarettes a day (long ago). Then for many years I smoked like 10 a week, I was still trying to quit for real. The hardest part is to contain yourself from smoking when you're having someone smoking by your side, or when you're having a beer, at least for me that was the hardest part. I considered myself to be a social smoker for many years 'cause I only smoke whit friends around, I did not smoke at home.

Now I don't snoke anymore (only weed form time to time hehe), it took me like 10 years to quit it. (incredible)

Good luck on your battle, remember it's all within you! Wish you the best buddy!

I quit smoking, and quit drinking. Several times.

Right now, I could probably kick a heroin addiction.
