Memory stick gurus in here lol need your help
ok so I had a 2 gig memory stick with some back up files on it.
I copied a movie onto the memory stick so I could move it onto my mac, which I did. Then, I deleted it off the memory stick using the mac. Now, even tho the movie isn't showing on the memory stick at all - both windows and mac say that the memory stick has no more room on it ie it appears the movie is still there, but it's not, if you see what I mean, sorry if I'm rambling. I fear this is something to do with the different disk formats between the systems, but am stumped as what to do next. anyone help me out? cheers |

I had a similar experience, and was able to recover my data using SanDisk RescuePro Deluxe:
http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Cata...RescuePro.aspx You can use the free trial version to see if it will work for you, and then buy the product (I think I paid $35 - maybe less), but it was well worth recovering photos that cost over $1,000 to produce. Hope this works for you... ADG |

I may have misinterpreted your problem. I thought you were trying to recover the movie.
If instead you are trying to empty the memory card, re-insert the card into the computer that you deleted the file from, and then empty the trash on that computer (including secure trash - on some computers you hold a key, such as the command key, when emptying the trash). Otherwise try reformatting the memory card from a camera or other device. You also might be able to still use the RescuePro software, since as I recall you can delete seemingly hidden files using RescuePro too. Perhaps someone else has a better solution. Good luck, ADG |

Generally it's best to ONLY delete files off a memory card using the device for which it was formatted / written by.
On a related note, moving / manipulating files on a memory card is always risky -and if done so frequently can potentially substantially shorten the life of the card. In regards to memory cards not reading - most often the problem is simply incompatibility (ie. different file format), but another frequent cause can be lack of power - if connecting to a computer, try using a different port, such as on the back (if using a USB card / reader adapter), since ports on some PCs (ie. front verses rear) vary in the amount of power they will pass-through. Backup your important data from memory stick to somewhere else, then format the memory stick. I am sure this gonna work, even if not .. you wont lose anything. Give it a try..

i have the problem all the time cause my people delete files on external harddrives but don't empty the trash - so the available space on the drives is shrinking although they appear empty
