A HURRICANE in NV!

We have had a high wind advisory all day but the on top of the High Wind Warning the National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement.

Quote:
HIGH DOWNSLOPE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE IN THE RENO- SPARKS AND CARSON CITY AREAS...EASTWARD INTO LOVELOCK AND FALLON THROUGH EARLY EVENING. BASED ON THE LATEST ANALYSIS BY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE METEOROLOGISTS...THE WORST OF THE WINDS WILL LIKELY BE THROUGH 7 OR 8 PM PDT. GUSTS OF 70 TO 80 MPH ARE EXPECTED...ESPECIALLY IN WIND PRONE AREAS AND IN THE FOOTHILLS SURROUNDING THE RENO-SPARKS AREA.

No you, are not dense at all. Perhaps to satisfy you I could say, sustained Tropical Storm strength winds have been experienced all day with hurricane strength gusts expected tonight! Better?

Well at first I was wondering WTF happened to the lake to make it do that, then read the thread.

Pretty sure it would be impossible to have a hurricane in NV. Tornado maybe, hurricane doubtful.

The winds over the ridges today have been sustained at 90+ mph and gusting over 100. I'm sure it is a lovely day at the lake.

If the US was covered in water, it would be possible.

I come from a place where there are no tornados, hurricanes or earthquakes.
What's the difference between a torndo and a hurricane? That hurricanes are from tropical places? Their intensity?
