Why does everyone hate Vista? It looks cool at the store

I'm looking for a new laptop and I guess you cant buy them with XP installed anymore, so I have to decide between Vista, or getting a Mac.

Looking at Vista at the store it looks great, really well done. Why do so many people hate it?
Does it crash a lot or fuck up your settings or something?

i've got vista on all my machines and have no problems with it at all and i like it. i've got loads of software on the machines and have no problems with any of it, so i dont see why people hate it but its basically personal preference. if everyone liked the same things life would be boring

Alot of people hate it because you cant use your XP software on Vista. I thought everything seemed buggy with the box I bought. I only used it twice before giving it to a someone to use.

I use Vista Ultimate and it works well. I had the most trouble with it early on. But got around the bigs fairly easily. For the hacked programs you had on xp before. They dont work well on Vista. Buy the legit version, worth the money.
Also, you need twice as much RAM on your Vista box over your XP box to get the same performance.

I think its just because everyone is used to XP or 2000. Vista really doesnt interest me, XP is fine for me.

I like vista, and have no problems with it so far, besides some old Games not being able to run on it; but thats what compatibility mode is for :-)

1st : Get a Mac
2nd : Vista is cool, there are TONS of alert messages to protect the users from themselves, but once you figure out how to get rid of them you can start getting some work done.

just make sure you get enough ram and you should be good to go. Don't go cheap on a vista machine and you will be happy.
