If you had to choose between The Simpsons or Family Guy?

Hands down both shows are great! But if you had to choose one, which show would it be?

Tough tough call... Both are great in their own way... Simpsons is old school funny and you cannot go wrong. Family Guy is much edgier now and makes me laugh all the time.

Simpsons.

I can watch old episodes of the simpsons and still laugh, can not do the same with most reruns of family guy.

What bothers me about Family Guy is the continued - "reminds me of when.. " then they go into a 5 min sequence that has nothing to do with the story. Just gets to me after a while. Simpsons has a humor I don't mind or feel I need to explain to my kids

I think Family Guy is just our new generation of The Simpsons. We were much younger with The Simpsons came out so things like "Eat my shorts" was way funnier.

Now that we are older and our humor has grown, Family Guy seems to tap into that.

I have laughed so hard at some Family Guy episodes that I nearly pissed myself. The Simpsons have always been funny too, but not near as funny as Family Guy.

Hands down, Family Guy. To be fair to The Simpsons, they have had a seriously long run on TV and its not their fault it got stale. I dread the day when Family Guy gets that way, but it will.

A few years ago I would have said the Simpsons. But they've been around SooOOOooo long now, and Family Guy has gained so much ground on them in the past few years, I have to go with Family Guy if I had to choose.

The Simpsons and it's not even close.

The Simspons manage (or managed, when they used to be better) to squeeze in some very intelligent humour, social commentary and critizism. I know there a lot of people who love Family Guy, and while some stuff is funny, I find it to be mostly twisted and kinda perverse, relying too much on shock value.

Family Guy has had some hilarious episodes, although maybe not recently. The Simpsons changed animation and television forever, kind of made the FOX network, and remains relevant and still has a pretty decent ratio of funny shows to duds. No comparison beyond them both being animated shows featuring a family. The Simpsons wins.

And The Simpsons has contextual humor and manages to speak to both highbrow and lowbrow sensibilities. Can't really ask for more than that.

I think those sequences can be funny, but I kind of agree with the South Park guys (and TheLegacy) that the lack of context in those non-sequitor bits on Family Guy doesn't totally work. I mean, I thought they were funny the first gajillion times FG used them, but it has definitely gotten stale.

Simpsons is classic - Family Guy is amusing but feels like this long uncomfortable exercise in futility - no matter how long it's been running, it still feels kind of like an amateur high school production - the jokes just aren't that funny

I think they have run out of ideas for both shows. South Park still consistently offends people.
