Do they do this on purpose? Is it because they assume you'll leave the room?
It's really annoying that I have to turn the show up real loud to hear it and have to turn the commercials down in between.

Anyone else found this to be happening more often?

yeah i was thinking they did it on purpose, some of the commercials even have like loud static like a tape error... i think its just marketing

Heh, seems like overkill but at this point, it's getting annoying enough that it may be warranted.

I guess the commercials are the $$ winners and those billionaire station owners always want more.
The only thing it really does is make me more apt to just download the episodes on a stupid torrent site so I can skip the commercials.

Volume Regulators are awesome.

I was given one as a present at about 2003, and I can tell the difference, even with the little amount of TV I watch.

It seems to me that this sort of thing should be regulated by what ever media enforcing agency each nation has.
What is the acceptable level of difference a station is allowed to use? Can they take it even further than they have it now without us being able to do anything about it? (beyond buying some compressors)

Sadly, I don't think there is any regulation on 'blowing out your speakers when a commercial comes on after a really quiet show'. Hell, remember when DVRs first came out and you could skip back and forth 15 seconds, 30 seconds, a minute - and now, by default (and most cable companies have them hard set) to 15 minutes.

Not really much you can do but opt out of the service, or manage it, yourself.
