Gorgeous and loving Shepherd ready for adoption in Los Angeles (pics)

I have had the pleasure of having Vigo live at my house for the past month. Sine then he has been eating a diet of raw red meat, raw eggs, and Innova dry food. His coat is very shiny, is well adjusted, and is showing signs how great of a friend he can be.

He is amazingly tolerant of small yappy dogs and will just try to ignore them even when they snap at him. Medium to small dogs are a different story as he needs to be OFFleash when around them or else he senses tension and may take a taste. He is a great dog to take to the off-leash dog park as he just wants to play with other dogs and sometimes steal their squeaky toys.

Like many dogs who have been abandoned and spent some serious time in a nasty kennel he is very affectionate. He likes to be hugged, have this big schnoz rubbed, and "gives paw" freely. He also loves to sit near the front of the house as if he is acting as a guard dog.

Vigo LOVES women and women love him. But Vigo is a mans dog. He is very very strong and you have to be able to handle him. There are plenty of males out there who do not qualify and there are plenty of women who do qualify to handle Vigo. You have to be able to be strong enough to pull him away before he meets up with other dogs while he is leashed and walking down the street. And if he does gets into a scuffle with another dog you have to be able to get medievil on his ass because that is the only thing that will stop the fight. Just don't be a moron and avoid the situation in the first place.

Vigo is very gentle around small children and has never shown to be a danger to any human. He is 3 to 4 years old and has been neglected, abandoned, and lived inside a nasty kennel for several months. Now he just wants to be loved and to express his love.

We know nothing of his background. Like so many dogs he was just dumped off by some douchebag who did not keep up their end of the deal. Now Vigo is ready for his "forever home'.

Hit me up if you think Vigo would be a good fit with your lifestyle and your home. Right now he is co-existing with a pug in my house quite nicely so if you have small dogs he can be their body guard

Thank you for the kind words and bumps everyone. Someone did contact me on ICQ and asked about the large dog issue.

Please let me clarify.... He is great with all dogs and goes to the park on a daily basis where there are tons of other dogs of all sizes (and a few hot milfs). He has zero problem with any of them. Only time there is a problem is when the dogs (medium to large sized) are leashed. I guess the reason is because he senses tension.

Nice puppy. I will be in Miami soon and would be up for taking his/her portrait. I do this free of charge and then use the photos to drive traffic to animal rescue sites.

The dog is in South Florida?

We had a Shepherd named Vigo when I was growing up. Named after the bad guy in Ghostbusters (2 I think).

What a lovely dog! You won't have a problem re-homing him I'm sure. If I lived in LA I'd love to see how he would have got on with my 4 year old Labrador. Too bad I'm the other side of the world.

I was sure I heard you having a conversation with him when I was in the other room.

Funny, I had a couple of girls over last night and he kept sniffing the hotter girl. When she took off her shorts to get into the hot tub he stole them and later we found him in his secret place licking them. He always seems to be attracted to the hottest girls.

What a beautiful dog. Why would some asshole dump him on the streets is beyond me. I hate assholes that do this to animals.
I hope you find a loving home for this guy

may I ask, why aren't you keeping him yourself?

I have fostered several animals. I have to admit I am deeply disturbed each time I let go of one of these guys because of the bonds formed. This particular dog is so great I am gong to be having an extra bad time when he gets adopted but I will go right down to the kennel and pick up the next one.

The reasons to foster instead of just letting them sit in a kennel are:

Kennels are like jail for dogs. They have to pee and poop in their own small space. They stay is this small cell all week long with only 1 or 2 short walks by volunteers on weekends. Plus the stresses of barking dogs 24/7 takes its toll. They often get sick just like people get sick after a trip to Vegas for a convention

At home you can feed them better food so the dog looks healthy which increases their adpotion rate. I feed them lots of raw meat and eggs to get them looking like champions. The guy I have now looks much better than he did a month ago.

You can get to know the dog and pass that info to any interested people so they can decide if the dog is a good fit for them and any other animals they already own.

The dogs are out and about in society so tons of eyeballs get a good look at them. Many people will ask about the dog so this increases awareness of both that particular dog and respective rescue organization. Plus the dog gets socialized with hundreds of people and other dogs which also makes them more adoptable.

Bringing one dog to your home saves the rescue organization money every day and creates one more space for another great dog who would most likely be put down like the thousands of others who meet this fate every day for (mostly) no reason other than humans treating them like garbage and just throwing them away when the animal no longer becomes convenient for them to keep.

As a perk, many of the people who are also helping out and those who are sensitive to the work tend to be great people. Not a bad group of peeps to associate with

Thank you for your question

Very good eye. I missed that.
Whoops, missed the fact that you are the OP!

That is great work that you are doing. I know the L.A. shelter population used to be ridiculously high. Fortunately it has come down though in recent years I read. We don't have as big of a problem here in the Northeast compared to other parts of the nation. Down south is probably the worst. For some reason they don't believe in spaying/neutering down there. Or there just isn't enough advocation for it.

Do you photograph these dogs? Those are really nice shots. I want to learn how to photograph the dogs at the shelter I volunteer at. Don't have a camera right now, my Fuji Finepix broke. There is a great book photo book I read called "Shelter Dogs." Most of the dogs that were put down were pit bulls. What is ironic about that is that they bond with humans better than most breeds.
