get rid of NASCAR and oil crisis solved...

how much gas/oil is wasted due to Nascar, formula1 and other forms of Auto racing???? not just the races themself... think about it... who cares about a car going around a track 500 laps... atleast cut it back to 200 laps...

think about the amount of gas/oil wasted....

You are not the first to think of this.

According to NASCAR officials they use less than 175,000 gallons per YEAR.

Americans use about 366 million gallons PER DAY.

Cutting out NASCAR would be like a fart in a hurricane, or however that saying goes.

I am pretty sure they pay the same price as everyone else. So not sure how getting rid of them would change anything.

Want to solve the oil crisis? Make people care enough to do more than complain to their buddy.

Anyone remember the Boston Tea Party? or do they not teach that in school anymore for fear it may make people think they can revolt?

Well, considering how many technological advancements are made as a result of the stress tests done on the race track, that is probably a pretty dumb idea.

Still taught and still taught wrong just like a lot of history. Hell they still teach that Columbus made the trip and was proving the earth was not flat and that he could circle the earth and get to India. Despite that we already knew the earth was not flat for a long time before then.

This is why if I had children (which I won't) I would NEVER send them to the worthless public schools in the U.S.

The Egyptian-Greek scientist Erastosthenes, working for Alexandria and Aswan, already had measured the circumference and diameter of the world in the third century B.C. Arab scientists had developed a whole discipline of geography and measurement, and in the tenth century A.D., Al Maqdisi described the earth with 360 degrees of longitude and 180 degrees of latitude. The Monastery of St. Catherine in the Sinai still has an icon that was painted 500 years before Columbus and which shows Jesus ruling over a spherical earth.

Take some time to learn the difference between spherical and round, it might do you a world of good.

Formula 1 is introducing KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) next year, and their races are only 190 miles long. They have a limited amount of miles each team can test between races as well.

A huge chunk of stuff we have today in our automobiles we owe to motorsport.

So basically, your mouth should be shut right about.... now.

fuel has weight.
weight slows down a car.
stopping to put more fuel in slows down a car.

therefore, to have the fastest car, you need (among other things)
the best fuel milage.

right?
these fuckers pour millions of dollars into r&d and the technology they
come up with for race cars eventually works its way down to
commercial vehicles.

He said Nascar AND all other forms of racing. You also need to include the fuel used by the fans to get to the races. They get what 100,000 maybe up to 200,000 per race? Some drive hundreds of miles to go to the race. And they use gas guzzling vehicles like RVs. Still a drop in the bucket but much more than 175,000 gallons.

For some reason that amount seems way to low for them. A regular 8 cyl gets 16 to 19 mpg. Not have that fucker with 400 hp, and moving at 80 to 100 mph for 3 hours.

I think the OP was talking about doing away with motor sports because of the fuel consumption required to participate
and as someone pointed out it's not as much as you would think.

It's unfair to factor in the fuel consumed by spectators coming to the race and if you do you should get rid of Football
and Baseball first. At the top level NASCAR has ONE race per weekend with an average of 100,000 in attendance. In the NFL
there is about SIXTEEN different games at SIXTEEN different stadiums that hold 70,000 plus spectators per weekend. Do the math.

NASCAR is a multi billion dollar industry that pours much needed money into the local economy of each venue. It creates jobs
from Race team owners to the kid selling sodas at the track. The positive rewards far outreach the relatively small fuel consumption.

The major auto manufactures support NASCAR and use it for research and development as the innovative race teams seek new
ways to be safer and more efficient. The improvements then become part of the cars we drive.

NASCAR always has it's eyes on the future and is already exploring the possibilities of alternative fuels. Even if they had to move
to racing electric powered cars it wouldn't matter because in the end it's still all about racing, competition and the need to find a way
to go a little bit faster than the rest

Williams F1 are working on a Hybrid system at the moment and have also been investigating the technology used on the Electric Lightning (the car not the jet fighter)
