I am a lot into the SOUL music lately, looking for recommendations

Isaac Hayes's Black Moses (1971)

Marvin Gaye's What's goin on (1971)

and Curtis's Superfly (1972)

are among my all time favourite albums so far

All of them are among my all time favourite artists, but although I feel a bit experienced in Blues, Rock, Heavy and even Jazz music, I ain't no expert on soul music, and I guess I know shit and only touching the top of the icerock.

Having only a little overview about the Motown scene from the 60's, open my eyes, if anyone has a decent collection at home or if anyone can recommend more artists - shoot.

Check out Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings for some current soul music with that authentic, lo-fi sound. Anything from their lable, Daptone.

The best thing for you to do is listen to channel 53 'soultown' on sirius.....Once you've heard a decent sampling of what you like and seen who sang, you can then go find it....

I'm doing the same thing now with the Sinatra channel.

If you are doing some iTunes sampling then here's a few cuts:

I'd throw some Phyllis Hyman in there.

The Jones Girls - Nights Over Egypt

Sylvia Striplin – You Can't Turn Me Away

Don Blackman - Loving You, Holding You

And here's a couple I know you will especially like:

Leroy Hutson - Cool Out (Jazzy, soulful... just good stuff)

The Rebirth - This Journey In

Also, check out Dwight Trible's Ishmael & Sunflowers off the Living Water album. It's from this decade but if you are in a soul mood it will work. It could have easily have been made in 1976. The guy's voice is incredible.

There's a new Al Green that was produced by Quest Love from The Roots.

It's extremely soulful. I just started listening to it an hour ago. It's very Sunday afternoon soulful... if you know what I mean.

no Teddy P? (well someone did say the blue notes) go with what BVF said and listen to channel 53. What album made in those days you'll like, you can't go wrong

Like 70 pct. of the names ring a bell to me and of course I listened to a lot of James Brown, haven't put that in as it's the godfather, haven't had a chance to do a whole album with most of these artists though, the radio is a good suggestion.

Thanks

Oh I forgot - one of the best to ever enter the arena in the 90's :

MeShell N'Dege O Cello - incredibly tallented multiinstrumentalist, she's rocking the bass big time, has a great voice, that woman is amazing..

This is one of my all time favourites - bought it way back in 97 I guess..

1996 Peace beyond Passion

Also starting in the 1980s, soul music from the United Kingdom become popular worldwide, with artists such as Soul II Soul, Loose Ends, Imagination, Mica Paris and Sade. British soul music became very popular in the 2000s too with artists such as Joss Stone, Terri Walker, Beverley Knight, Corrine Bailey Rae, Adele, Duffy, Amy Winehouse and the Brand New Heavies achieving great success.

Thanks for some great input according to what I've been able to check so far.

Now just to exchange my roommate for a decent femme fattale and some bestial lovin' every night to work with it and I'll be satisfied.
