Anybody bother cooking just for themselves in the evening?

If so, what?

My wife is in Japan for 5 weeks, and it's a pain in the ass cooking just for one person.

I've only cooked once in a week. I just can't be bothered. Hmmm, tonight's dinner is either Thai, Indian or Vietnamese.....the merits of living in Sydney.

Ya have cooked for self many times and for prolonged periods. Some times simple shit that is gone in one night like a steak and potato or something and other nights something that will end up lasting me a few days like stew or lasagna.

Good thinking. Will knock up a bolognaise tomorrow, that should last a few days.

Haven't been in "single" mode for over 5 years LOL.

I usually buy pre-made dinners like chicken alfredo and chicken parmesan and toss em' in the micro.

I don't usually eat breakfast so that's no biggie and for lunch, I'll make Ramen or toss a couple of dogs on the stove - either of those are 5 minute lunches with relatively no clean up.

most of the nights I do but right now its mostly salads etc (way too hot for heavy meals) so I'm not sure if that counts as cooking

I cook for myself every evening, although several nights a week I'll invite someone for dinner.

I cook chicken, pork, turkey, quail, fish, seafood (crab, lobsters, shrimps) Lots of salads, I have some great tasty recipes easy to make and you don't get stuck with a shitload of left overs and very healthy.

I love making Pho Tai soups, lentilles souip.... I'm really in my element when in a kitchen ;-)

Where do you live Bake? I am in Bronte.

Don't get my wrong, I am a very good cook, just busy as fuck and can't be bothered to do what is required in the eveninig. Don;t have the energy or inclination.

Cooking for me is about sharing, taste, and enjoyment. When it's for yourself you know what's coming and it's a bit boring.

My partner is such a darn picky eater that if I am ever home alone I take advantage of it and cook something he won't eat. Usually any meat actually on the bone.

I've heard about your desire for meat on the bone.

But seriously, it's a pain. Time for some bulk recipes, one effort has to last me 3 meals.

I don't live in Sydney now but I'm often there. North Sydney has some of the best food in Aus I love to eat out when I'm there.

I do every night. Didn't in the past when I was in university and such but the stuff available as far as precooked food or "fast food" is boring to me now. Plus cooking everything in the microwave is probably not good for you.
Cooking for myself keeps me busy in the evenings and gives me a chance to figure out what tastes good and what doesn't for when I cook for others. Also you end up eating healthier this way.

Cooking is a decent creative outlet, plus a chance to do an ABC 123 project. Left brain, right brain. Plus the calories that you burn scrubbing, slicing, stirring and prepping food subtract right off the score sheet if you are watching that stuff. Thats another issue with the tear off the lid slap it in the nuke and consume meals. They're too easy.

I cook for myself pretty much every day. But almost every time I make three or four servings at a time, so I have different meals that last multiple days. For example, I cook three chicken breasts at a time, three steaks, a wok full of stir fry to make 4-5 meals worth, a pound of ground turkey which makes 4-5 servings presented differet ways etc.

I know it is rubbish but I really crave that at times. When I first moved to the UK you could find it as an 'oddity' in some supermarkets but I haven't seen it for years and it was one of my favorite white trash meals growing up.
