New York City - Last year of Yankee Stadium - worth going?
I like going to different major league ballparks where I can, hell any sporting event really, and since it's the last year for the Yankee stadium, I've been thinking I should head down for a weekend and catch a game. So a few questions for people from NYC:
Is it worth it? Should I just go to the new stadium? Seems like a lot of allure and history Is it even possible to find cheap accommodations in the summer in NYC? What's cheap? :P Tickets.. I'm assuming they're all sold out from the start of the year, so what kind of prices can you expect from scalpers? I'd need 2 tickets Anything else that needs to be considered? |

Red Sox Jersey Burial During construction of the Stadium, a construction worker named Gino Castignoli, an avid Boston Red Sox fan, buried a David Ortiz jersey underneath the visitors' dugout with the objective of placing a hex on the Yankees, much like the Curse of the Bambino that had long plagued the Red Sox (however, the curse somewhat backfired on David Ortiz as Big Papi started the season hitting poorly, then improving once the jersey was removed). He was later exposed by co-workers and the jersey has since been exhumed.[13] The Yankees organization donated the jersey to the Jimmy Fund, a charity long associated with the Red Sox. The jersey eventually sold on eBay for $175,000 and the proceeds donated to the Jimmy Fund. [14] Castignoli has since claimed to have buried a 2004 American League Championship Series scorecard, but has not said where he placed it.[15] |

I am a redsox fan and i have been to yankee stadium (july 4th 2001). It was amazing to see the park and the history and i have to say that if you haven't been there it is a must see this summer. Tickets will probably cost you a ton since everyone is trying to go, but worth it ;)

I heard last year was the last year so I went to a game and had a blast. Tickets are average prices depending on where you sit obviously. For 100 bucks a ticket you can sit almost anywhere.
Good times and a great experience for sure. Make sure you catch the train up from the city though and stop by the local spots before the game. Don't hop in a cab...lol The fans are some of the most dedicated I have ever seen and worth grabbing some beers with. Just do it... |

Are you insane? LOL Of course you want to see a game at Yankee Stadium before they move! Nothing beats the aura of the stadium. In terms of ambiance and really feeling the history there is no place like it. At no other stadium is the crowd into EVERY PITCH like they are at Yankee Stadium. I can't really stress enough how magical that place it. But then again, I'm a die-hard Yankee fan.
Try your luck with Ticketmaster of an online broker, but I would start checking StubHub right now. |

Get to a game. Hell I'll give you tickets that I have for a game against the Orioles next month if you want. They aren't great tickets, but a great view from up above home plate. We can exchange tickets for info, links, traffic, whatever.

You have to man.
I have been many many times but not this year. Had tickets in May and was going to take my 2 year old son but I was sick as a dog and spent the week in bed. We will definitely make the trip this summer even if it is just an over nighter.

I only went once in the five years I lived in NYC. I would of like to have gone more now.
I remember it as being a big deal at the time to simply take the train from Brooklyn all the way to the Bronx.
