I use it and love it.
It has two feaures not available on my linksys router factory firmware: 1. hard code a dhcp ip to a mac address - this way I can leave my laptop on dhcp for traveling outside the house, but it always gets the same ip when it is in the house. 2. Ability to ssh to the router - this way I can tunnel vnc and other applications through ssh to other machines behind the router without opening up ports.

if your router supports it then it's the best thing that can happen to a router. It turns a $35 router into a $500 router.

Yes, but was using openwrt, I once built a captive portal running on a freeradius backend with it.
http://openwrt.org/ If you're a GUI guy, I would suggest you use a firmware by Sveasoft instead. http://www.sveasoft.com/

I've used both OpenWRT and DD-WRT. OpenWRT is more like 'debian for a router', and DD-WRT is 'pretty web configurable router that usually works better now.'
