SEO is so dynamic, fleeting and ethereal... a "book" is probably out of date by the time it's published and released.

Even the Google boys don't release information relevant to the here & now - it's either six months out of date, or not going to be for 6 months...

Expereince and daily stats and metrics checking is the best way to stay up to date...

:D

Hope this helps...

Most books are BS... The golden rule I follow is please Google... they drive approx 73% of all the Internet traffic... they like meta tags, descriptions, keywords in the url and actual keywords within the <body> with a proper keyword density... keywords need to appear 6 to 10 time... forget linking just to up your Google Page Rank... also keep your links off your webpage to under under 100.

These things are what Google likes; I don't care what other have to say on the subject... you got to test it out for yourself... no one wants you to succeed! they don't want the competition... don't take my word for it, prove it one way or the other for yourself ...

Good luck,

Play more video games. SEO is nothing more than learning a new system, spotting patterns, and finding the exploits. Same as a video game. My theory is people who are really good at video games are predisposed to understanding SEO if they try.

But most of the respected books/resources can give you at least a foundation. But don't expect anything more than you can find for free if you search a bit.

the best knowledge you can get is from following all those SEO blogs (from real SEO professionals). I recommend searchengineland.com like one of the most quality sites about SEO.

The best advice is still go for long-term placement and rankings, design your site and write your content towards your audience and your keyword density should be fine (assuming you know how to write; if not, have someone else do it for you). Get a few reputable links from related sites and go from there. You don't absolutely need meta tags, keyword stuffed image alt tags, etc... to rank well. However in general using these won't hurt you.

Basically, don't think about SEO that much when building your site and you should have a site that will rank nicely

As for Blogs, the only important item I'd recommend is making sure your URL is a permalink and has no ?parameters in it.

Nothing new here, just an affirmation of basics. Fancy techniques can get results but often change really quick.

you should read books on how SEs work, rather than SEO. learn what they look for as basic and you will cover a good 70-80% of what you need to know.

like others said, most of the info in books is outdated because of the time it takes to print. people that know SEO are either 1) greedy and never want to share info or 2) to lazy to share the info and have to really motivate them to get it

best thing you can do imo is read forums and try stuff out. basic SEO is not that difficult and will get you good results

Books are good to establish a base, but there isn't anything in a book that you can't get online for free with a little research.

If you're looking for a book to establish a solid base then look into SEOBook.

Otherwise follow the advice of most of the people here and follow blogs and forums.

Some seo books can be good to give you the basics of what SEO is and how to look at your site, but the way search engines rank you is always changing so the techniques are always changing. It seems like more and more search engines are trying to rank sites based on them having quality content so that is what you should work towards building. Make a good site with quality content and some good inbound links and you should be able to rank pretty well.

Good luck,
not entirely wrong, but you are however way off when you talk about links.
Links is the one absolute most powerfull thing in SEO. Proper link building can bring your site to #1 with a keyword density of 0% and no meta tags at all. Actually if you link correctly you can make your site rank #1 for a 100% irrilevant keyword.

I highly suggest you read up on different ways of making dynamic link building such as Link baiting.

The reason I dont think you are entirely off is that in most cases on non competitive keywords on-site seo can be enough to place you at the very top. I normally say that is archieveable if there's less than 1 million results.

What is most important when you are making a link building strategy is that your links has a correct anchor text. Think of it this way: It has to look natural. If you have 1500 backlinks worded: "milf reviews" google will probably rate that you are trying to manipulate your result and your site may not have the value you are trying to imply it has.
instead link with many different variants: "nice milf review site", "milf review site", "visit this milf review site", "cool milfreview site" and so on and so on. They have to vary and look natural otherwise google will know what you are up to.

Always look at it as a google employee who are trying to get the most relevant and sites of highest qaulity at the top. Think of it as you are the one who had to evaluate every fucking site on the internet. Then combine this thought with the things mentioned all around the net about seo.
