Restarting as in no screen display?

Or restarting as in makes it through command prompts, maybe a windows safe mode boot option screen?

Try System Restore to an earlier date.

Restart in Safe Mode. Once you can get this to load. Shut Down via the Start Menu. Then start windows normally. Give this a try.

hit f8 as it boots, try starting into safemode, but could be drive failure, or data corruption, if that is the case going to take either restoring, repairing, or reinstalling. Plus possible new drive. Try the f8 thing first

try tapping the f8 key as the laptop boots up ( just keep pressing it until you see it has loaded in safe mode )

load in safe mode then do a shutdown the proper way then restart

Hope this helps...

Go to a computer fix-it shop and have them test the battery... if the battery is fine and if you cannnot have your computer on long enough to do anything useful with, then I would have to say bring in your computer for repair. Sometimes when components fail they can damage other components... it could be either three likely things a.) your battery b.) your harddirve is dying or is dead c.) your bios battery needs to be replaced, a very small battery that keeps your bios settings... sometimes when the bios battery is weak or dead the computer will default it's manufacturers settings...

Could be multiple things. might have to run a chkdsk on it to fix the boot file if it got corrupted. Like others have mentioned, hit f8 as the system is booting and choose safe mode, if you get into windows that is a good thing. Try to shutdown properly and restart.

alternative solution... buy a mac sorry had to toss that out there.

its probably some app that is preventing system files from loading and telling the computer it needs to restart. Norton anti virus did this on my old Sony, so i feel your pain. When you log in thru safe mode, if you have the option to restore to a previously working mode OR if you can get windows to boot, you can do a system restore.

if there are files that you just saved between your last system restore (assuming you dont have this done automatically), then you can take out the hdd, put it in a 2.5 external hdd enclosure you can buy from bestbuy for about $60 bucks, then transfer those files onto another pc.

I had this happen to me a couple weeks ago. Freaked me out because I was out of town so all my backups were at home.

Turns out it was because there was a DVD/CD in the drive and for some reason it was trying to boot up with it (even though it has never tried that before, and the disc had been there for months. Still is).

When I figured it out everything started working again . . . and yeah, the DVD is still in the drive. Might try that.

Depends on what the blue screen error is. More than likely if your blue screening you either have a few corrupt system files or some part of the hardware, most likely the harddrive or ram, has gone bad.

Get the error message from the blue screen and google it.
