Where's the incentive? I go to shows because I like to party and I can afford to go, but there is no business to be done for me. As an affiliate any information I need is right here on GFY, the last thing I need is a few hundred reps handing me business cards and telling me I should switch all my links to their program and they can hook me up with a super special $30 payout if I can send 200 sales a week.

Also a lot of the affiliates from "back in the day" have started their own programs and hired on new people, so those people are still going to shows, just not the newer webmasters.

When you factor in the lack of value of a show for a full-time webmaster nowadays (no companies doing big sponsored thank you dinners, lack of open bar at parties, no cool events like gameworks), the real question is "why should we go"

The Palms was a very stupid idea. No girls under 21, gimme a break.

Also, price way too high. $300

Its just as easy to meet people for lunch, etc and do biz.

I was a webmaster for years and we still own several affiliate websites, and it's the same as the webmasters we talked to.

The events are way too expensive for them, and there's really nothing for them to do or get interested in. Seriously what would today's show have to offer a webmaster?

You want to get rich in this biz, start a show geared toward the no-name webmasters.

Because it would take me at least 15 mins to drive there.

Seriously though, I've already done the "put a face with the name" thing with most of the few people that I deal with regularly and even that isn't necessary.

Plus, a shiny booth with shiny booth babes or free drinks/parties isn't gonna make me rethink where I send my traffic so there's not much point.

I get more value out of the 0.1% of posts on GFY that contain useful info than I do going to shows generally.

what fuzebox said

whats the point?

i dont need to listen to how your new program is going to out do who im currently pushing. if i thought for a second that your program was going to out do who im doing now, i would have tried you by now. i dont need your card or your pitch to make that decision

fuzebox totaly nailed it.. a wooping 30 bucks a sale if i send 200 sales a week.. well how bout this guy.. im making 50 a sale, and it dont matter if i send 1 or 5k

that and the fact that 12clicks never invited me to a dinner party.

so, shows for me are pretty much just a party. i mean dont get me wrong, i go under the illusion that we are going to get something done.. but honestly.. what comes to the table after a show?

a big as thank u thread, a hang over for 4 days and maybe 5% of the deals that were talked about.

ill save the money i would spend going to vegas, and go on my own terms.

I feel like Socks. I've gone every year but this one. Ever since I've been going I feel like it's just one clique of people after another. And I just hang out with the same crowd as well, I always just see Baddog, Keev, and a few others.

I may occasionally meet someone new, but it's usually just the same group of people. I meet more people here on GFY. And since I've never really been seen anyway it's easier for me to stay out of the limelight so to speak.

I don't drink so that already keeps me from being with "the in crowd". I've seen and shot my fair share of naked chicks, so when when one strips at a party I don't feel the need to go crazy about it and run to take pictures.

I like fuzebox's answer though. Why would a webmaster want to go? There's no real attraction for them. It's probably as attractive as having a party at an automall. You want to go and have a good time and all the people are just trying to hardsell you.

I could accomplish just as much business here on GFY, than I could at a show.

At a show I feel so socially unplugged, but here.. behind the security of my keyboard, I'm much more confident.

For our webmasters we would do sponsored dinners. We would also consider hosting open bar parties to meet new webmasters, but the problem is there are not enough webmasters attending... for the LA show I posted a thread saying that I want to meet webmasters, come meet and have a drink with the CE cash crew... we want to get to know you guys, webmasters are very important to us.

See, it's a catch 22 They're not attending because it's a big waste of time and money. The only reason I go is because there's a lot of friends I can only see at shows, and it's nice to have a vacation (which is what I treat it as).

Back in the day allot of business did come from the shows... because when we all got back from the shows we all got down to biz... and $$$ was made.

I like the shows becasue I was actually able to meet my webmasters face to face... I think it's important to put a face to the name, it's also nice to build on the relationship.

I really hope to meet more of you guys! don't be strangers... If it wont be at the shows pls feel free to hit me up on ICQ

Someone hosted some small localized gatherings a few years back - CE was there in Chicago - lots of GOOD networking with fewer people - which is what the Phoenix Gathering started out being.

500 sale reps telling me their program is better then others ? no thank you.

95 % of them reps wouldn't be able to send a single sale.

Personally, because I'm a member of the part-time crowd who make barely enough money to cover the cost of the taxi to get to the airport to get on the plane to go.

Although if somebody actually recognised me or my site, I think I might blow a bollock with excitement...

No reason for the average webmaster to go. Sure some business gets done but unless you're a "someone" no one is gonna want to do business with you and I can party with drunken idiots at home.

If I was to travel to a show I'd want to bring somebody I know with me. Nobody I know can just get up and take off for a week and go to a Porno Convention. That's pretty much why I stick to the local gatherings.

It wouldn't be fair to my wife to leave her with 3 kids at home. When the kids are all grown up, I'll head out to Vegas for pleasure and very little biz.

That would be in 13 years.

Well guys .. the only reason I go or send guys is to hang with the webmasters .. buy them drinks .. dinner and just all in all hang out and do my best to entertain the webmasters .. what I have found is that unless I spend thousands of dollars trying to tell the webmasters that I am even going to be there to give them more and more stuff .. no one even knows ... I have guys in Vegas right now .. promoing all you can drink shooters in sweet light up shooter glasses .. with the entire reason behind it being to do something cool and nice for OUR webmasters and possible new webmasters .. I certainly am not there to kiss ass to any of my competition ... or suck hole to my processors .. the treats and fun shit if for you guys .. and yeah .. the show prices are too high in my opinion .. if your in Vegas .. get out there and drink'r up in my tab .. step away from the computer ..

Likely because if you don't know anyone, you aren't gonna get into the parties or invited to the dinners and so on. I've been in this biz several years now and I've yet to go to any events other than a small get together that happened here in FL.

Maybe if the parties catered more to the average webmasters then maybe more would attend. Instead it's always vip parties catering to the bros club so you get no one but they guys you already know and reps from other programs.

Think about that when you are sponsoring a party.. Do you want to sponsor an event that just caters to the same ole same ole, or do you want to cater to the average webmaster.

Sure every program wants that whale whom sends $20k a month in joins but how likely is it you are gonna get many of them? On the other hand it's probably much easier to get 20 or 30 webmasters whom send $1k a month in joins.

In short if the shows catered to the average webmasters instead of the bros club, well then maybe the average webmaster would show up.

The shows are too expensive and don't really offer much of a ROI if any at all. Branding a program is easier and cheaper to do through other venues. Regarding face time with the industry, private parties and flying people in is much more valuable and less expensive. There are too many non-webmasters (ie, affiliate reps) at the shows now. The floors are usually desolate, and the seminars are usually geared toward noobs.

Q: How many affiliate reps does it take to SEO a page?

Q: How many affiliate reps does it take to write an HTML link?

Q: How many affiliate reps does it take to encode a flash video?

Q: How many affiliate reps does it take to build a traffic network?

I can go alllll day long.

that is why I like the smaller shows like Redneck Getaway...been 2 years in a row and between the 2 years made quite a few good biz connections and generated some nice income from it as well as made a few new friends too.

from a non-program webmaster, there is very little at the shows for us other than to meet affiliate reps. however, there are a lot more people in the industry that just webmasters... content providers, shooters, marketing people (like myself), etc. which talking to these other companies does bring in business.

i would say that if i was coming to the show as just an affiliate site owner or tgp webmaster it would almost be pointless other than to put a face with a name or possibly get an extra $5 PPS.

but the parties are a blast

As a webmaster, I send the most sales to whatever program converts the best and makes me the most money. After being an adult webmaster for 10 years, I dont need sales reps throwing me sales pitches.

The only reason I'd attend a show is to meet program owners for the first time. But one can only do that so many times, before one has met them all.

Why should real webmasters go? What's in it for them? The seminars are a joke - always have been. Saddly this would be the best reason for them to go but everyone knows they are nothing more than a long winded advertisement for the company putting on the seminar.

If you are small, there really is no real networking because you don't really get all the fancy invites to all the parties. They are treated more like fans but without the perks.

So why pay all that money to go to the show to learn nothing at fake seminars with no real opportunity for networking?

It's a waste of valuable time and resources. I've been saying this for years ... going to shows is retarded. It's such a waste. You can schmooze with me to get my business just as easy over the phone or ICQ than you can at a loud, dirty show room floor.

On my desk I am looking at 4 tickets to "private" industry parties. I got these because I've been in the business for more than a decade but you know what? I'm the last person that should have gotten them! I know these people, that's why they send me the tickets. So I don't need to network with them more!

Instead these tickets should be sent out to all the small guys. They are the ones who are working their booties off to be bigger. You get their loyalty now and *if* they do make it, your gamble paid off and now you have a whale.

But no, instead companies send people they already know and are already established their stupid party tickets. Talk about a total waste.

Think about how much a company will spend on going to a show. Take that money and spend it on ass kissing to smaller webmasters throughout the entire year and I promise you'll be more productive and attract more loyal clients. The last person I would want to do business with is some retard I got drunk with in Vegas.

It's not about being a "someone" it's about being serious about the business and wanting to make it! I have been in the biz for 5 years, and most of the webmasters that I met at my first show who nobody even heard of became very big guys... everybody has to start somewhere, and I am willing to do business and give people chances.
