Too Much Information

I'd like to hear some people's thoughts on if they think the world is just giving out too much information these days, internet, tv, google, etc, meaning their is just so many different directions and so much to learn.

For those 22 and younger you probably grew up that way so wouldn't know any different, for those who didn't have the internet some of your life maybe you could comment.

Just curious what others think

I wouldn't say too much, it's a great thing to have info so easily available. When I was a kid you couldn't just look it up on the internet, you actually had to go digging for info from various sources.

Granted each way has added benefits, I mean actually going to the library isn't such a bad thing after all. However overall the world is a much better place with the free and massive amounts of info that can be found on the net. One draw back though is you can never be 100% sure if the info is legit until you do your own research.

well I guess on the surface I agree that it's far better to be able to look up anything at anytime, but I guess I should explain why I asked. I am noticing everyone over the years is getting A.D.D. and nobody follows through anymore, everyone seems to work on so many random things, and so many smart people I know just do a few minutes of many different things and never focus anymore, and it seems that's because there is so many things to try to focus on these days.

Another way to explain it is the high bounce rate for google analytics and the idea that people are mostly skimming type content these days and don't read through anymore with the fear we may spend a whole 5-10 minutes reading something not worthwhile

Sometimes too much information leads to analysis paralysis,
where it's too hard to make decisions because there's too many choices, and then you end up waiting and making no decision at all, which is worse.

there is a certain information overload going on, there is so much now that one need not focus on a set source, simply browse to where their interest peaks.

while this is a good way to keep people up to date, it will never present an in depth look into events, causes and effects and so on. kids seem to lack the core focus to do things completely end to end these days.

while I doubt we'll reach a point of Idiocracy, I think we will start to see the upper middle class pull farther away from the lower class and the upper class will continue to grow, we're in a sense creating a largely under-motivated and under-instructed set of generations to come.

i guess the internet and tv really are sheep herders though. but that's good, the sheep are the ones that turn the wheels, work the mundane jobs, pay their taxes and follow the rules, which brings order
