A tax isnt bad, throwing you in jail is bad. A tax makes us 100% legitimate without question. It takes all the grey away. For all my industry brothers who cry libertarian. Besides that it's not just the tax being discussed it is also the mandatory age verification system. Imagine the expense to implement that. And how do they plan to make that fly outside of the US?

One difference is that all the Democrats in this thread are opposed to such legislation and wouldn't support it nor the "Democratic" Senator behind it. However, Republicans here seem to be completely ok with voting for and supporting those in office who pose threats to the industry, or dismissing the threat altogether. The sky didn't fall under the current administration but the atmosphere certainly changed.

It's a fine balancing act - to be a Republican in this industry. I'm an independent...I state this first because I belong to neither of the religions (dems / reps) and I do like to state that point in advance because whenever I discuss politics I usually have Republicans calling me a liberal and Democrats calling me a conservative...because both groups view the world in a very black and white kind of way...I'm a shade of grey (computer tan gives me that color).

Now, you can take what I say as an attack against Democrats or you can see that there is cause for alarm in our industry regardless of who gets put into power. Who's the more likely to cause us trouble? McCain most likely, but that doesn't mean Obama is necessarily going to leave the industry alone.

A vote for Obama does not mean the industry gets left alone, it also doesn't mean the industry flourishes because there's many factors that can effect the profitability of the industry.

I happen to be voting for Nader, more as a protest vote against crappy candidates, but I live in NY and I have the luxury of casting that vote because I know which way our state would go. If I were in one of those battleground type states I would grit my teeth and vote for Obama but I wouldn't feel good about it...
